What’s the Latest on Travis Hunter’s Injury for the Jacksonville Jaguars?

On Friday, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that Hunter suffered a knee injury during Thursday’s practice. The team immediately placed the rookie star on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least four games.

“The Jaguars are placing WR/CB Travis Hunter on injured reserve because of a knee injury suffered in practice Thursday, coach Liam Coen said. He’s out at least four games,” Pelissero wrote.

To make matters worse, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen reportedly said the injury was non-contact. While the exact nature of Hunter’s knee injury hasn’t been confirmed, non-contact knee injuries are always concerning.

Hunter has been a star for the Jaguars this season. The team traded up from the No. 5 overall pick to the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select him, and for good reason.

Hunter is a special talent, contributing to both Jacksonville’s offense and defense. While he hasn’t played enough defensive snaps to be graded as a cornerback this season, he’s been solid as a wide receiver, ranking 61st among all NFL wideouts in PFSN’s WRi metric.

Losing Hunter, even for just four games, could be a significant blow for the Jaguars on both sides of the ball. Jacksonville’s offense has struggled this year, ranking 25th in the league according to PFSN’s OFFi metric.

Hunter has been the team’s most productive wide receiver by catches and has the second-most yards, so without him, the offense is likely to take a significant hit.

Defensively, the Jaguars have been stronger, ranking 14th in the league in PFSN’s DEFi metric. Hunter has contributed with 15 total tackles and three passes defended this season. While his absence won’t be felt as heavily on defense, the unit will still miss his presence.

As of now, the severity of Hunter’s injury is unknown. Hopefully, it’s not too serious, and he can return later this season at some point. However, non-contact knee injuries are among the most concerning in the NFL, and there’s a possibility Hunter could miss a significant amount of time.

Hunter’s injury news is bad not just for the Jaguars but for the league as a whole, as he’s one of the most exciting players in football. Fans will be hoping for a quick recovery and to see him back on the field in 2025.
