The Jacksonville Jaguars had a much-needed bye week in Week 8 after dropping two straight games. They started off 4-1 and looked like one of the best teams in the NFL after taking down the Chiefs, but they fell to the Seahawks and Rams in consecutive weeks, dropping to 4-3. The bye week is a good regrouping period to help them get back on track and give their team time to get healthy.
Their star WR Brian Thomas Jr. was battling injuries in Week 7Â and was in and out of the game. Take a look at his status for Week 9.
What’s the Update on Brian Thomas Jr.’s Week 9 Availability?
Thomas left their game against the Rams in the third quarter after taking a hard fall trying to make a catch. He got back into the action, but left the game again late in the fourth quarter with an apparent shoulder injury. The game was a blowout at this point, so Thomas had no reason to return.
Thomas was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. The Jaguars star is currently questionable to play in Week 9.
Thomas made an instant impact in his rookie season and was one of the best receivers in the AFC. He made the Pro Bowl and was a bright spot in a lost season for Jacksonville. He hasn’t recaptured that form yet in 2025. Thomas has zero games over the 100-yard mark this year after having four last season.
The Jaguars must find a way to get Thomas going like he was in his rookie season. The offense could reach new heights if Thomas explodes in the second half. He is the 63rd-ranked wide receiver in PFSN’s Wide Receiver Impact score with a grade of 67.3.
The Jaguars’ offense hasn’t been all that impressive either. They’ve done enough to win games, but haven’t been dominant. Performances have varied, with good showings and bad showings, and even within games, it’s been streaky.
The schedule is giving Jacksonville a break. The Raiders and Texans are next up, and neither is above .500. Bouncing back from the losing streak with a winning streak will give them momentum to take into the stretch run. The Colts are threatening to run away with the AFC South, and the Jaguars need to string wins together even to give themselves a chance at the divisional crown.
They must take it one game at a time, though, even one day at a time. Fans will be taking it day by day as they await Thomas’s injury update. If the injury was as minor as it seemed, there is little reason for concern, and Thomas should be gearing up to take advantage of a bad Raiders team on Sunday.
