How Long Will Quinshon Judkins Be Out? Latest on Browns RB’s Return Timeline After Week 8 Injury

Browns’ rookie RB Quinshon Judkins exits with a shoulder injury; recovery looks hopeful with Week 9 bye before potential Week 10 return.

Rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was taken out of Sunday’s game following a shoulder injury during the Cleveland Browns’ blowout defeat.

The Browns move to 2-6 after the New England Patriots dismantled them 32-13 in Foxborough. With the score as bad as it was, the Browns decided to leave Judkins out for the remainder of the contest.

Will Quinshon Judkins Miss Time Following Week 8 Injury?

Things are going from bad to worse for the Browns, who will be without their star running back for the foreseeable future. Sports Medicine Physician Jesse Morse reported on the injury and gave a timeline for the Ohio State products’ return.

Morse claims that the severity remains unknown, but gives Browns fans a hopeful message regarding the length of recovery.

“More than likely an AC sprain,” said Morse. “Unclear of severity. Due to the score it didn’t make sense for him to return. It’s likely a type I, and the good news is that the Browns are on bye next week. Good chance he’ll be back in Week 10.”

Cleveland’s bye week may come at the perfect time, as it could give the injured back an extra week to mend the bump. Looking ahead to Week 10, the Browns meet the now 1-7 New York Jets.

Judkins’ Impact On Struggling Cleveland Squad

While Cleveland has a top-five defense according to PFSN’s Defensive Impact metric, their offense has been abysmal.

PFSN’s Offensive Impact metric ranks the Browns second-to-last, ahead of just Tennessee. Their 56.3 score results in an F grade as they have now recorded 20 or fewer points in every game except one.

However, Judkins has been a bright spot in the struggling offense, with the QB carousel playing a larger role in their demise. PFSN’s Running Back Impact metric shows that Judkins ranks in the top half of statistic-eligible backs.

Judkins’ 467 rush yards ranked him 11th in the NFL amongst all running backs after Week 7. It looks like this injury is going to make many trailing RBs to surpass him. He has also rushed for five touchdowns, ranking him fifth in such statistics. However, the impressive ground game has not translated to the score sheet as Cleveland continues to trend in the wrong direction.

With the running back doing everything he can to make an impact in his first season, PFSN’s Joe Rutland elaborates on what the offense must do to help the rookie.

“Judkins is in a trial-by-fire situation this season with the Browns,” said Rutland. “Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski hopes that he can get some offensive support from the highly touted rookie this season. Should Gabriel be able to move the sticks on offense, he’s going to need Judkins as a reliable outlet for the Browns’ run game.”

If Judkins is to miss any action after Cleveland’s week nine bye, fourth-year pro Jerome Ford will be heavily relied on for production.
