‘Offensive Juggernaut’ 49ers Receive Major Compliment After Thrilling Win Over Bears: ‘Can Beat Just About Any Team’

The San Francisco 49ers have been plagued by injuries this season, but that has not stopped them from remaining one of the NFL’s top teams.

The San Francisco 49ers entered the season as expected contenders in the NFC, though the path they have taken to reach this point has been anything but expected. The 49ers have been ravaged by injuries all year, including the loss of their two best defensive players, Fred Warner and Nick Bosa. The 49ers have also lost quarterback Brock Purdy for an extended period, along with tight end George Kittle.

With most of their starters dealing with injuries at some stage, the 49ers’ 12-4 record stands out as particularly impressive. Over the past two months, they have arguably been the league’s most dominant team, winning six consecutive games and showcasing an offense that has resembled a juggernaut. Should they maintain this level of play, there is little reason to doubt their ability to defeat any opponent in the NFL.

49ers Offense Earns High Praise

In PFSN’s Week 18 NFL Power Rankings, compiled by analyst Jacob Infante, the San Francisco 49ers were listed at No. 8. Infante highlighted the team’s ability to perform at a high level despite being hampered by injuries throughout the season.

“The 49ers have the chance to take the No. 1 seed in the NFC if they beat the Seahawks in Week 18. This will be easier said than done, given Seattle’s own success this year. That said, if there’s one thing San Francisco’s win over the Bears showed, it’s that they’re a well-coached, offensive juggernaut who can beat just about any team in the NFL, no matter how long their own injury report is,” Infante wrote.

It is hard not to be impressed by what the 49ers offense has been able to do of late. They have scored 90 points across their last two games and are averaging 35.7 points across their seven-game winning streak. Plenty of credit must be given to head coach Kyle Shanahan, who is setting his team up for success. He knows his team’s strengths and is pushing all the right buttons. According to PFSN, the 49ers are second in the NFL in Offense Impact with an 87.1 score.

Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey also seem to be playing their best at the right time. Purdy has been excellent since returning from injury and has five total touchdowns in each of the last two games. McCaffrey has been dominant all season and is on the short list of candidates for Offensive Player of the Year. While he has not had a great rushing season, his ability in the passing game has made him invaluable. He has accumulated 2,069 total yards and 17 touchdowns this season.

The 49ers Could Play the Rest of Their Season at Home

Oddly enough, if the 49ers can win on Sunday, they will clinch home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs and will play the rest of their games at home. That includes the Super Bowl, which is set to be played in Santa Clara this season. The 49ers are 5-2 at home this season heading into Week 18.

Having home-field advantage in the playoffs cannot be overstated, and that is why the 49ers’ game on Sunday is their most important of the season. It will be interesting to see how that game plays out, with vast implications for the NFC playoff picture.
