2024 NFL Combine: Top RB Performers by RAS Include Isaac Guerendo and Jaylen Wright

In a year where there isn't a consensus top RB prospect, how will RAS impact the rankings at the position heading into the 2024 NFL Draft?

The 2024 NFL Combine is officially in the books, and we potentially saw some running backs stake their claim into the RB1 overall spot with their outstanding testing metrics in Indianapolis as we approach the 2024 NFL Draft.

These elite testing numbers produced some impressive Relative Athletic Scores (RAS) for several of the top RB prospects entering the 2024 NFL Draft, which could foreshadow a bright future in the pros for these talented ball carriers.

Who Were the Top RB Position Performers by RAS?

Isaac Guerendo, Louisville: 9.98 RAS

If there was one back who most would say definitively boosted his draft stock at the NFL Combine, it would be Isaac Guerendo from Louisville.

Listed at 6’0” and 221 pounds, Guerendo’s blazing 4.33-second time in the 40-yard dash combined with his equally impressive 41.5” vertical and 10’9” broad jump made him one of the event’s best performers this year. He is a converted wideout who tests like an elite receiver prospect, which made this event a favorable one for him.

In a year with no definitive top prospect on the board at his position, Guerendo certainly made a compelling case to catapult up the RB rankings heading into the 2024 NFL Draft.

Tyrone Tracy Jr., Purdue: 9.87 RAS

Speaking of converted receivers, Tyrone Tracy Jr. eventually made the move to running back after transferring from Iowa to Purdue. According to his RAS at the RB position, this appears to have been a decision that benefitted him considerably at the NFL Combine.

Tracy’s 4.48-second time in the 40-yard dash at 5’11” and 209 pounds was solid, but what took his RAS to another level was his exceptional performances in the jumping and agility drills. His vertical (40′), broad jump (10’4”), 3-cone drill (6.81 seconds), and 20-yard shuttle (4.06 seconds) were all among the best at his position.

Similar to Guerendo, Tracy did nothing but help his draft cause with a standout performance in Indianapolis.

Jaylen Wright, Tennessee: 9.81 RAS

When Tennessee’s Jaylen Wright posted a 4.44-second time during his first attempt running the 40-yard dash, he looked a bit disappointed. Well, that frown quickly turned into a smile after improving his time to a 4.38 with his second attempt.

This improvement — combined with his outstanding 11’2” broad jump — helped produce an elite RAS to validate him as one of the most explosive RB prospects in this class. Wright has sneaky potential to be the very first back selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Trey Benson, FSU: 9.77 RAS

Speaking of potential prospects who could hear their name be the first called at the running back position, FSU’s Trey Benson confirmed his home run-hitting ability with an electric 4.39-second 40-yard dash at 6’0” and 216 pounds.

His RAS could’ve been even more impressive had it not been for a disappointing 33.5” vertical jump, but considering he suffered a major knee very early in his collegiate career, this NFL Combine performance should be considered a success.

MarShawn Lloyd, USC: 9.29 RAS

Few backs in this class are more fun to watch than USC’s MarShawn Lloyd. Fortunately, for Lloyd truthers out there, he was quite fun to watch perform at the NFL Combine.

Lloyd’s compact 5’9”, 220-pound frame displayed plenty of explosiveness with a 4.46-second 40-yard dash, 36” vertical, 25 bench press reps, and a very serviceable 9’10” broad jump. He possesses a three-down skill and could certainly see his draft rise after his solid outing in Indianapolis.
