Joe Brady will not have it easy as a first-year NFL head coach leading a Buffalo Bills team with Super Bowl expectations, since replacing longtime head coach Sean McDermott in January.
While the transition has appeared to be positive so far, Bills podcaster Alex Brasky believes Brady’s relaxed approach during training camp could eventually create problems if Buffalo stumbles out of the gate.

Brady took over as Buffalo’s head coach earlier this year after spending the previous four seasons on the Bills’ coaching staff, first as quarterbacks coach and later as offensive coordinator.
Under Brady’s coaching, Buffalo’s offense has been among the NFL’s best over the past two seasons. According to PFN’s Offense Impact ratings, the Bills’ offense ranked third in 2024 and 2025 with grades of 88.9 and 86.5, respectively.
However, not everyone is convinced his leadership style is the right fit for a team expected to compete for a Super Bowl. Brasky shared concerns on X after listening to comments from offensive tackle Alec Anderson, arguing that Brady’s “looser mentality” could become a problem.
“Spotlighted by concerning remarks made by Alec Anderson, the looser mentality instilled by Joe Brady at Bills training camp is a disaster waiting to happen,” Brasky posted on X. “If BUF gets off to a rough start, the torches and pitchforks are going to come out quickly.”

“The vibe with Coach Brady is young and fresh,” said Anderson to News 8. “It’s kind of like having your uncle come over, and he’s a little younger than the older brother, and you just know you’re gonna have a good time.”
“You know you’re going to be able to go out and get some ice cream, do stuff that your parents wouldn’t really allow you to do,” Anderson added. “And I think that’s the fun aspect that we’re going to have.”

However, Brasky saw those comments as something worrisome, implying Anderson’s comments made Brady look like a pushover substitute teacher at school.
“We heard from Alec Anderson… he basically said that Joe Brady is the substitute teacher that we all took advantage of when we were younger,” Brasky said.
Brasky then pointed to a recent incident involving C.J. Gardner-Johnson, whose locker-room livestream reportedly had to be shut down by Brady, suggesting players may already feel more comfortable pushing boundaries under the new head coach.
“The looser things get with Brady, I think the more concerned that I’m starting to get with things potentially going off the rails down the road,” Brasky added.

The Bills podcaster argued that the Bills may have drifted too far from the disciplined culture McDermott established over the years. He added that if the Bills open the season slowly, whether 0-2, 0-3, or 1-4, those comments from Anderson are likely to backfire against Brady.
“It’s almost like they’re trying too hard to go away from Sean McDermott. And I really think it’s going to come back to cost them,” Brasky said. “I think we’re going to see some negative byproducts of the changes that Brady has made in terms of the mentality in that locker room.”
Brady has fared well under the Bills’ coaching staff, but ultimately his tenure will be judged by whether Buffalo continues to contend as one of the AFC’s elite teams. If the Bills make a deep playoff run in Brady’s first year, none of this will even be a point of discussion.
On the contrary, it could even gain him plenty of praise for being a “fun” coach. If things go south, though, Brasky’s observations from training camp may be worth revisiting.
