The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t used to being in this spot. A 0-2 start feels almost surreal for a team that’s been the NFL’s gold standard over the past few years.
But after falling to the Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch, the Chiefs are searching for answers, and one of those answers is getting wide receiver Xavier Worthy back on the field.
Will Xavier Worthy Be Available for Week 3 Tie Against New York Giants?
The absence of Worthy has been immediately felt. His right shoulder was dislocated after he collided awkwardly with Travis Kelce on the first drive of Week 1 against the Chargers. Without him, the Chiefs’ bright new playmaker was suddenly sidelined, and their passing assault appeared substantially weaker.
Add in Rashee Rice’s six-game suspension, and Patrick Mahomes has been left trying to work magic with a thin group of targets.
But here’s the silver lining: Worthy’s on the mend, and his progress has been encouraging. He’s been spotted at practice wearing a shoulder and full-contact brace for extra support, running routes and catching passes with his trademark speed.
NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported that his chances of playing against the New York Giants this Sunday are “hopeful,” which feels like a huge step forward given how things looked just two weeks ago.
However, on Saturday, NFL insider Dianna Russini revealed that the Chiefs’ WR is not expected to play in Week 3.

Head coach Andy Reid even sounded optimistic when asked about Worthy’s status, though he clarified that Worthy would be on a limited practice plan this week. Still, seeing him out there, moving and competing, is a positive sign for a team that desperately needs a spark.
Worthy’s Specific Injury, Kansas City Looking for Answers
The twist? Reports say Worthy is dealing with a fully torn labrum. Normally, that kind of injury leads to surgery and months of recovery. But instead, the Chiefs and Worthy have chosen a different route: managing it with rehab, a brace, and pain tolerance.
‘It’s risky, but it also gives him a chance to contribute immediately instead of losing his rookie season before it even begins.
And Kansas City knows just how valuable he can be. Fans haven’t forgotten his breakout in the Super Bowl, where he torched Philadelphia for 157 yards and two touchdowns. That kind of explosiveness is exactly what this offense is missing right now.
The Chiefs’ redemption tour hasn’t started the way they hoped. But football seasons are marathons, not sprints. If Worthy can return soon and stay on the field, he might just be the spark that helps Kansas City return to looking like, well, Kansas City again.
