The WNBA remains divided over the trans-athlete debate, with fans and athletes vocal on both sides. One of the loudest voices has been XX-XY Athletics CEO Jennifer Sey, who has repeatedly criticized the league’s handling of the issue.
Now, she’s calling out another Indiana Fever moment she says was designed to shift the narrative.
Jennifer Sey Accuses Fever of Shifting the Narrative With Simone Biles Appearance
During an August 28 clash, the Fever and the Connecticut Sun faced off at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. In attendance was celebrated Olympic gymnast Simone Biles.
Biles greeted the Fever stars after their game, including Sophie Cunningham, who initially sparked a fire across the league. However, in Sey’s own words, “… Simone didn’t look psyched when [Sophie Cunningham] came in for a hug.”
For reference, during the game, Biles was seated next to former YouTuber Michael Buckley, who Sey reports received “star treatment to come and sit courtside with Simone.”
According to Sey, Buckley was speaking poorly about Cunningham alongside Biles.
This prompted Sey to post on X, formerly Twitter, “The Fever tried to shift the narrative away from protecting women’s sports at Friday’s game. It didn’t work. Simone Biles on the jumbotron will not change the course of this movement. We are winning.”

By the end of the night, Indiana had clinched a 111-91 victory over the Sun despite the slight courtside drama. As for Cunningham, she is now averaging 8.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 46.9% from the floor.
The 30-year-old Fever guard has been navigating a chaotic season as the league pushes through heavy dissension. The waters have yet to calm, and Sey is not softening her voice amid the controversy.
Indiana, in particular, has faced the most heat, but the franchise still holds the league’s fourth-best record at 26-14.
All things considered, the Fever has maintained focus throughout the regular season, but they must maintain it as they near the postseason.
