‘No Need to Defend That,’ ‘Hilarious!’ — WNBA Fans React As Caitlin Clark Lets Angel Reese Shoot Wide-Open 3 in Fever’s Win vs. Dream

Angel Reese faced criticism on social media for missing a wide-open three as Caitlin Clark chose not to defend her shot attempt.

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark duked it out in last night’s overtime thriller between the Indiana Fever and the Atlanta Dream. The Fever prevailed 95-91, with Reese having a particularly difficult game on offense.

One such moment came about when Reese attempted a 3-pointer, and Clark didn’t even try to contest it.

WNBA World Reacts As Caitlin Clark Lets Angel Reese Attempt Wide-Open 3

Angel isn’t the best 3-point shooter in the WNBA. She’s shooting a career low 14% from beyond the arc this season on 1.3 attempts a night. Granted, the sample size is quite small given the volume of shot attempts, but she’s also never shot over 19% from three in her three years in the WNBA.

So, when Reese decided to attempt a three from the top of the key, Clark decided against closing in on her defensively and instead focused on grabbing the rebound.

Clark’s hunch was right as Reese missed the three-pointer to the left side of the backboard, and the ball landed right in the Fever star’s hands. Fans saw this and immediately began trolling Reese.

“Caitlin Clark really said, ‘I’m going for the rebound, no need to defend that,’” wrote one user.

Another wrote, “Hilarious!!” in response to the clip.

“If she wanted to be disrespectful, she should have waved her like she did that girl in college,” joked one fan. This is in reference to Clark waving off a shot attempt from now-teammate Raven Johnson during their college days.

“Cue the wave off to Raven,” wrote another fan in reference to her wave-off to Johnson.

One fan poked fun at Reese’s three-point shooting, writing, “Lmaooooo who would guard that.”

Another didn’t even need any words to voice how they felt after the shot. They simply posted a GIF of a man spitting out water.

Reese struggled with her shooting but still finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds against the Fever. However, she had some notable offensive blunders as the Fever came away with an overtime win.

Most notable was when she missed a put-back layup from right underneath the basket with less than four seconds left in regulation to potentially win the game.

Reese is continuing to work on her long-range shooting as she looks to add it to her arsenal. However, as of today, the fruits of her labor haven’t been showcased on WNBA hardwood.
