Sky Star Angel Reese Reveals 1 Major Goal for Her Reebok Signature Shoe After Witnessing Michael Jordan’s Greatness

Angel Reese’s first Reebok signature sneaker is set to drop soon, and she has one ambitious goal that could define its legacy.

Angel Reese has never been one to think small. Fresh off becoming the first WNBA player in nearly three decades to land a signature sneaker with Reebok, the Chicago Sky forward is already eyeing a future that stretches far beyond the hardwood.

For Reese, the release of her debut model is less about performance or breaking barriers and more about impact. As she explained recently, she has one clear goal in mind for what this shoe can represent.

How Does Angel Reese Change the Game With Her Reebok Signature Sneaker?

Back in July, Reebok officially unveiled the Angel Reese 1, making her just the fifth active WNBA player with a signature model. The debut drop includes three colorways – “Diamond Dust,” “Mebounds” and “Receipts Ready” – priced at $120 and set to release on Sept. 18.

But for Reese, the design rollout is only part of the story. When asked about her vision for the shoe, she didn’t hesitate to share one ambitious goal.

“Just like how they wear Jordans everywhere. I want people to wear the Angel Reese 1s everywhere and just to be a household name, to have no limits on what I can do and what I can accomplish,” Reese said as per Kayla Webley of Elle Magazine.

The comparison to Michael Jordan isn’t casual. Jordans became a global phenomenon through his dominance on the court and Nike’s culture-shifting marketing. Reese, often nicknamed the “Bayou Barbie” for her flair and confidence, hopes to achieve something similar — building a sneaker that goes beyond performance gear and becomes part of everyday fashion.

As for Reebok, it isn’t new to signature shoes, but Reese’s deal signals a return to bold storytelling. The brand hasn’t had a women’s basketball star in its signature roster since Hall of Famer Rebecca Lobo in 1997. This makes Reese’s sneaker not only historic but also central to Reebok’s push back into performance basketball.

Shaquille O’Neal, who became Reebok Basketball president in 2023, played a key role in bringing Reese aboard. He originally signed her to an NIL deal during her final season at LSU, and the relationship carried over into her rookie year with the Sky. By October 2024, Reese signed a multi-year extension.

Reese has even turned what was once mockery into branding. The nickname “Mebounds,” coined to poke fun at her habit of grabbing her own missed shots, is now a trademarked part of her clothing and sneaker line. Instead of avoiding criticism, she’s flipped it into part of her identity.

Can Reese Bounce Back From Her Back Injury as Sneaker Hype Grows?

While her sneaker buzz builds, Reese has been sidelined in the WNBA. The 6’3″ forward has missed six straight games with a back injury, last playing on July 29. Without her, the Chicago Sky have slumped to an 8-25 record for the season.

The timing is tricky. Reese led the league in rebounding, averaging 14.2 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 44.4 percent shooting this season. Her absence has left a significant void, but her off-court ventures continue to elevate her profile at a time when visibility for women’s basketball is rapidly growing.

The Air Jordan line grew into a cultural movement because it was about more than sport, it was a statement of style and self-expression. Reese is openly chasing that same trajectory.

The first drop arrives Sept. 18. If Reese gets her way, it won’t be long before her sneakers are seen on playgrounds, city streets and beyond, just like the Jordans that inspired her.
