Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell have spearheaded the Indiana Fever’s charge this season, helping the franchise turn into a legitimate contender for the WNBA championship. Olivia Miles has made a similar impact in her rookie year with the Minnesota Lynx.
However, Clark and Mitchell’s former Fever teammate believes that Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson is more deserving of the MVP award.
Former Fever Guard Names A’ja Wilson As MVP Pick Ahead of Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell
Sydney Colson is a two-time WNBA champion who played on the Fever last season. The 37-year-old appeared on “Yahoo Sports Daily” on Thursday and was asked about her pick for the MVP award.
Despite playing with Clark and Mitchell last year, Colson named Wilson as her pick for the MVP award.
“Probably A’ja. I think people a lot of time have greatness fatigue with the WNBA,” Colson said. “I just think that’s going to be something that’s not seen for a long time. We’ve had 6-foot-3, 6-foot-4 point centers. Other people like Breanna Stewart, Candace Parker in the past, A’ja, they’re kind of a mold that isn’t around anymore. So you may not see it.”
Despite backing Wilson to win the MVP award this year, Colson is confident that Clark, Mitchell, and Miles will continue to dominate the WNBA for years to come.
“Fortunately, we have a lot of talented guards in the running that are going to be in the league for several years,” she said. “Whether it’s Kelsey, Caitlin Clark, probably Olivia Miles will get one soon. There are a lot of other guards who will get it for several years as well.”

However, Colson does not see the trio defeating Wilson for the prestigious honor this year. “But I don’t think that means A’ja should be counted out because she’s still doing it right now,” Colson concluded.
The race for the WNBA MVP award appears neck and neck, with Wilson, Clark, Mitchell, and Miles standing out as the frontrunners. Wilson (26.0 points per game) leads the WNBA in scoring, with Mitchell (24.8) and Clark (22.1) in second and third place, respectively. Meanwhile, Clark has established herself as the league’s best playmaker, averaging 8.3 assists per game (tied for first in the WNBA).
Meanwhile, Miles has helped the Lynx take a comfortable lead at the top of the WNBA standings. The TCU alum is enjoying a stellar rookie year, averaging 19.7 points, 6.2 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game.
The WNBA MVP race is set to go down to the wire, and it will be interesting to see which player emerges as the winner come the end of the regular season.
