The Dallas Wings hold the keys to the most highly anticipated backcourt reunion in recent women’s basketball history. Securing the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming 2026 WNBA Draft gives the franchise a direct path to pair reigning Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers with her former UConn teammate and current girlfriend, Azzi Fudd.
Dallas hit the lottery after a frustrating 2025 campaign in which the team missed the postseason despite a brilliant debut year from its cornerstone guard. Bueckers shattered expectations as a rookie, earning All-WNBA Second Team honors and establishing herself as a legitimate franchise savior.
Adding Fudd to the roster provides an immediate answer to the team’s glaring need for perimeter shooting. The move would instantly accelerate the Wings’ rebuild and establish one of the most dynamic, marketable backcourts in professional sports. The established synergy between the two guards offers a rare advantage for a team drafting at the top of the board.
Azzi Fudd Could Join Paige Bueckers in Dallas
Fudd enters the 2026 draft class as a premier prospect after anchoring the Huskies’ offense during her final collegiate campaign. The 23-year-old guard profiles as the ultimate professional weapon, averaging 17.7 points per game while shooting a blistering 45.5% from 3-point range.
Dallas must determine if selecting a second consecutive guard at No. 1 overall maximizes its roster construction. Yet, the undeniable chemistry between the two basketball phenoms presents a compelling case for the Dallas management team.
Bueckers and Fudd spent years dominating together in Storrs under head coach Geno Auriemma, culminating in a highly celebrated 2025 NCAA national championship run that cemented their shared legacy.
When asked about the possibility of sharing a professional locker room with Fudd, Bueckers did not hide her enthusiasm for a potential reunion in Texas.
Paige Bueckers said “that would be exciting” if her former UConn teammate Azzi Fudd rejoins her on Dallas Wings, which have the WNBA draft’s No. 1 overall pick this month.

“That would be exciting. Again, I don’t know all that I can say or what the future holds, but obviously we’ve had a lot of things together under our belt,” Bueckers said. “We won a national championship together, so I think there’s great success in that, but I guess time will tell.”
The two basketball stars officially confirmed their relationship during the 2025 WNBA All-Star weekend, turning endless fan speculation into public reality.
Fudd recently addressed the draft speculation during an appearance on the “Game Recognize Game” show with Breanna Stewart. She acknowledged the universal basketball dream of going No. 1 overall but emphasized her focus remains strictly on finishing her current collegiate business, rather than getting consumed by professional projections and mock drafts.

“I mean, obviously, getting drafted is the dream, and being No. 1 is the dream,” Fudd told Stewart. “I want to be in that UConn hallway with you, and with everyone else. But I’m really not thinking about it. I’ve got to take care of business here first.”
Fudd offers a massive upgrade from beyond the arc and comes with zero learning curve when playing alongside the franchise’s primary ball handler. Surrounding Bueckers with familiar, elite shooting forces opposing defenses to make impossible choices in the half-court.
Dallas management faces a franchise-altering choice when it submits its draft card. Drafting Fudd guarantees an immediate cultural shift and unparalleled offensive synergy right out of the gate. The Wings possess the exact draft capital required to turn a storied college partnership into a terrifying professional powerhouse.
