Sophie Cunningham has been the talk of the nation since July 21 after she said she doesn’t want players in the WNBA to play against individuals who were assigned male at birth.
In support of Cunningham, the Texas Values organization has aligned with ‘Moms For Liberty’, ‘Moms For America,’ and more to have a press conference and rally during the Wings-Fever game in Dallas tonight. US Senator Ted Cruz took to X to endorse this event.

The press conference will be held outside of the American Airlines Center at 4 p.m. today by the Texas Values organization. “Texans wanted to keep the ball rolling in supporting Sophie Cunningham and her stance on women’s sports,” said their X account.
“What better place than Texas, which has passed two laws to protect female athletes and one major law to protect privacy, to rally in support of Sophie. Sophie is right,” continued the Director of Government Relations for Texas Values.
Senator Cruz then entered the fray by quote-tweeting the Texas Values post to show support for the August 20 event.
“Fantastic. Thank you for so ferociously defending women & girls. Sophie is a true American hero.”

Cruz has maintained his stance of being against allowing trans women to compete in women’s sports. On August 4, he was asked by TMZ what his thoughts were on trans eligibility.
He said, “I think it is clearly unfair to allow boys to compete against girls and to allow men to compete against women. Boys and girls are different and mankind has known that literally since the dawn of time.”
Cruz’s support for this rally showcases how widespread this discourse has become. This also isn’t the first rally that has taken place outside of a WNBA game.
After the Portland Fire’s 112-98 loss to the Indiana Fever on August 2, Cunningham’s supporters thronged Moda Center to protest against trans eligibility.
Most recently, the Valkyries-Lynx game at Chase Center drew hundreds of activists from both sides of the argument. At this rally, however, there were far more pro-trans activists present, despite the demonstration’s initial premise being ‘Save Women’s Sports’.
“Save Women’s Sports” activists were outnumbered by pro-transgender counter-protesters outside the Chase Center.

Sophie has stated that she’s had “nothing” to do with the protesters. This, however, hasn’t stopped any of them from taking place.
The WNBA has yet to declare clear rules and regulations regarding trans eligibility. Leagues like the World Tennis Association and the Union Cycliste Internationale have done so, and the W may not be far behind.
