Caitlin Clark stormed into the WNBA last year as a record-breaking rookie, rewriting history with her passing brilliance and claiming the single-game assists record, the WNBA rookie assists record, and later the single-season assists record. But 2025 has told a very different story. Plagued by injuries and stuck on the sidelines, the Indiana Fever guard has watched her achievements slip away one by one.
And now, Alyssa Thomas has taken back a prestigious assist record that Clark once held.
What Record Did Alyssa Thomas Claim From Caitlin Clark?
Thomas has officially taken back what was once hers. During the Phoenix Mercury’s 87-84 loss against the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, the Mercury star notched her 338th assist of the season, surpassing Clark’s single-season record of 337 set in 2024.

Thomas had previously held the mark. She posted 316 in 2023 and 317 in 2024 before Clark set the 337-assist record.
This season, Thomas’s production has been nothing short of historic. She is averaging 15.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game on 53.3% shooting.
Her 9.2 assists per game rank as the second-highest in league history, trailing only Courtney Vandersloot’s 9.95. She also leads the WNBA in assists in 2025. For a player who already owns six All-Star appearances and three straight top-five MVP finishes, reclaiming the record adds yet another jewel to her résumé.
Thomas arrived in Phoenix via a four-team trade finalized in February after 11 seasons with the Connecticut Sun. She has since become an integral part of the Mercury’s roster, even becoming part of MVP conversations.
What Other Caitlin Clark Records Have Been Broken in the 2025 WNBA Season?
Clark’s 2025 campaign ended after a string of injuries — first a quad issue, then groin problems — and that absence opened the door for several rivals.
Washington Mystics rookie Sonia Citron passed Clark for the most double-digit scoring games by a rookie. Likewise, rookie phenom Paige Bueckers outpaced Clark’s early scoring and playmaking marks, becoming the fastest rookie to reach 500 points and 150 assists, and breaking Clark’s All-Star voting record. Bueckers received more than 805,000 votes compared with Clark’s 700,735 in her rookie year.
Bueckers also reached 250 points in 13 games, compared with Clark’s 16. And within Indiana, Clark’s teammate Kelsey Mitchell set a new Fever single-season scoring mark with 772 points, surpassing Clark’s previous total of 769.
Clark’s injury-shortened year has allowed multiple players to claim milestones she set as a rookie. Whether she can retake those records in 2026 will be one of the WNBA’s most-watched storylines.
