Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum sliced through the Chicago Sky’s defense and banked in an easy layup. As the ball dropped through the net, she turned and gave the “too small” gesture, her hand inches above the floor, and her eyes met the roaring WNBA crowd while Reese stood still.
Plum’s move wasn’t just effective. It was a shot of pure confidence that had the crowd buzzing and social media going crazy. Her “too small” gesture, a move borrowed from streetball, has become one of her go-to celebrations. This time, it had a little more bite.
Kelsey Plum Mocks Angel Reese With “Too Small” Gesture
The clip, which BricksCenter first shared on X, surged past 1.2 million views within a few hours. Its comment section was a frenzy of praise for Plum’s bravado and disfavor for the Sky’s rising star.
In the box score, Plum’s flair was matched by numbers: 28 points on 6-of-11 three-point shooting, eight assists and two rebounds, her highest point total this season, propelling Los Angeles to a 91–78 victory over Chicago.

Yet for the Chicago Sky, the defeat only deepened a troubling early-season slide. After three games, Chicago’s average margin of defeat sits at a staggering 24.3 points per contest, the worst mark in the league thus far and a glaring symptom of a team searching for answers.
The season’s opening-pageant collapse came on May 17, when the Indiana Fever overwhelmed the Sky 93–58 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Chicago’s worst opening-night loss in franchise history.
A two-day road trip to New York yielded a 99–74 setback against the Liberty, a game in which Chicago trailed by as many as 30 before falling by 25.
Against the Sparks, Angel Reese managed a resilient effort—13 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals—but the Sky’s deficiencies on the wings and in transition were laid bare late in the third quarter, when Plum’s dribble break and ensuing “too small” flourish became the emblem of L.A.’s momentum swing.
Flames of frustration flickered in Reese’s eyes as she regrouped, but the moment crystallized the gap between a surging Sparks squad and a winless Sky club.
Across platforms, the moment dominated conversations. On X alone, the original clip amassed hundreds of comments within minutes. One disappointed fan wrote, “Angel Reese hoop like she playing a celebrity basketball game.”

Fans weighed in. Some called it a lack of improvement, while others lamented the optics for Reese and a struggling Chicago squad.
One X user noted, “Angel Reese has played a total of 84 minutes and the Chicago Sky have been outscored by 59 points. Angel Reese has been on the bench a total of 36 minutes and the Chicago Sky have been outscored by 14 points. Reese can’t shoot and doesn’t play defense.”

Sky’s Winless 2025 WNBA Season but Sparks Find Renewed Momentum
For Plum, the viral moment cements her as a scorer and showman. A three-time WNBA All-Star and past scoring champ, she’s leaned into the theater of basketball this season.
Beyond the taunt, the exchange has boosted the Sparks’ confidence. Los Angeles snapped a three-game skid, finding rhythm across all five spots. This win sets up a key home game against Atlanta on May 27, a test to see if the Sparks can build on this or slide back into inconsistency.
The Sky gets no break. Their next game is against a hot Phoenix Mercury squad on May 27 ET. Chicago’s frontcourt duo of Reese and rookie Kamilla Cardoso will be tested against the Mercury’s powerful frontcourt.
Whether the Sky can turn frustration into fire remains to be seen. When L.A. and Chicago meet again (June 24), Angel Reese will be hunting redemption, and Kelsey Plum will still be playing with swagger.
