From Mound to the Market: Who Is Will Matthiessen?
Matthiessen has built quite an impressive and well-rounded professional journey that extends far beyond his early years on the baseball field.
He was born on Jan. 9, 1999, in West Linn, Oregon, and grew up in an athletic family. Matthiessen’s grandfather was involved in soccer and rugby, and his grandmother was passionate about tennis.
He began his baseball career pretty early at West Linn High School, where he earned recognition as the best male athlete. He also finished fifth in state rankings during his senior year.
Matthiessen continued his athletic pursuits at Stanford, where he played baseball for the Cardinals and became a pitcher for the Bourne Braves later.
His talent eventually landed him a spot in the Pittsburgh Pirates, but his injury-riddled start forced him to step away from professional baseball to explore other opportunities. Beyond sports, Matthiessen has now taken on a variety of roles.
He previously interned in the Customer Success and Event Operations at SportsRecruits and later started working as a Venture Associate at Commonwealth Impact Investing.
