Every single time Caitlin Clark holds a basketball, she makes history. She has now added another impressive line to her already expanding resume on Thursday in San Francisco.
Of course, the WNBA world did not waste any time leaning into the Indiana Fever guard’s new milestone.
WNBA World Reacts to Caitlin Clark’s Record-Shattering Pace
Fever star CC delivered an incredible milestone during her team’s road game against the Golden State Valkyries. She entered the game just three assists shy of reaching the 500 mark for her career so far, and she didn’t make anyone wait for too long.
Midway through the second quarter, she found Sophie Cunningham streaking down the floor with a long cross-court pass that became her 500th assist.
The moment makes Clark the fastest player in WNBA history to reach both 1,000 points and 500 assists, doing so in just 59 games. She’s now officially shattered Sue Bird’s previous mark of 82 games.

This user believes that Clark destroyed the previous mark by a wide margin, despite only playing 13 games last season and only a handful now, making the accomplishment even more impressive. “She destroyed the record by 30 games. And that’s considering she missed half her second season with injury. She is just dominant.”

Another user zeroed in on the 59-game window, directly. “1,000+ PTS and 500+ AST, doing so in just 59 games. That’s insane.”

And then this user took a slightly different angle, suggesting this milestone could have arrived sooner, had Clark not been forced to miss any games. “Imaging if she wasn’t treated like shit and forced to sit out? It would have been sooner”

Despite Clark making history, the night didn’t go as expected. The Fever fell 90-88 to the Valkyries, with Clark finishing the game with 16 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds, while shooting 3-of-12 from the field.
Her 500th assist came in the second quarter, after Indy spent most of the first half trailing by double digits, but the Fever responded with a late push to tie things at 44-44 by halftime.
The game stayed close down the stretch, with Indiana briefly grabbing a 7-point lead before Golden State retook control in the final minutes.
Gabby Williams hit one of two free throws with 16 seconds remaining to push the Valkyries’ lead to two, leaving the Fever 0.6 seconds for one last attempt. Aliyah Boston got a clean look on the inbound, but her shot sailed wide of the rim.
Veronica Burton led Golden State with a game-high 25 points and a career-best 5 blocks, while Gabby Williams added 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Rookie Raven Johnson chipped in 16 off the bench for Indiana, going 7-of-10.
Clark now sits at 1,118 career points and 503 assists across her first 59 WNBA appearances.
