The Indiana Fever’s 2025 WNBA season ended heartbreakingly and controversially. Despite missing their cornerstone star, Caitlin Clark, the Fever defied expectations with a 24–20 record, clinching a playoff berth and making a stunning run to the semifinals. Their inspiring journey, however, was cut short in Game 5 against the Las Vegas Aces.
Now, weeks later, Fever star Aliyah Boston has broken her silence on the one call that may have changed everything.
What Was Aliyah Boston’s Reaction to the Controversial Game 5 Call?
During a recent episode of “Post Moves” with Candace Parker, the two-time MVP revisited a key moment from the fourth quarter of Game 5, a foul call that sent shockwaves through the Fever’s locker room. When Parker replayed the sequence on-screen, Boston’s reaction said it all. Visibly frustrated upon seeing the clip again, she exclaimed, “Are you kidding me? No, are you kidding me?”
Furthermore, Boston didn’t stop there. She reflected on a fact that stunned her about the referee’s decision. She noted that she had used the same move previously in the season without drawing a foul, yet it resulted in one during the crucial Game 5.
“You know what’s so crazy? I’ve been crab dribbling all year. I have not got an offensive foul in that manner the entire season,” Boston added during the podcast.
How Did the Indiana Fever Struggle in the Second Half of Game 5?
Things began to unravel for Indiana in the second half of Game 5. The team suffered a major setback midway through the third quarter when All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell fell with a non-contact injury. The arena fell silent as Mitchell clutched her leg, remaining on the floor for several minutes before being helped to the locker room. She was ruled out for the rest of the game, a crushing blow for a team already fighting an uphill battle.
Moments later, Boston picked up her fifth foul on that same sequence, forcing head coach Stephanie White to sit her star center. The Fever’s offense sputtered without Mitchell’s scoring and Boston’s presence inside. When Boston checked back in during the fourth quarter, Indiana briefly regained momentum. But with just 27 seconds left in regulation, the game’s most controversial moment arrived.
While hustling for a loose ball, Boston was called for her sixth foul, which disqualified her from the rest of the contest. Coach White immediately challenged the call, but after review, the referees upheld their decision. This forced the Fever to finish the game without their two top performers, and the Aces capitalized, pulling away in overtime.

Many Fever fans have since argued that the foul on Boston cost them the game and their shot at the Finals. Without their key players, Indiana managed only 12 points in overtime, ultimately falling short and ending their postseason dream.
Looking back at the game’s flow, Indiana started strong, tied with Las Vegas 23–23 after the first quarter and trailing by just two points at halftime. Although the Fever lost ground in the third quarter, they stormed back with 23 points in the fourth to force overtime. In the extra period, however, depleted by foul trouble and injuries, they couldn’t keep pace with the Aces’ depth.
With Boston calling out what she described as a “crazy” call, the conversation around Game 5’s officiating has been reignited.
