WNBA World Reacts to Fever Signing Caitlin Clark’s Former Team USA Teammate As Busy Offseason Continues

The Indiana Fever signing Monique Billings in free agency would give Caitlin Clark the physical presence needed to compete.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are not wasting any time in building their roster ahead of the 2026 WNBA season. The season will commence its 30th edition on May 8, and the Fever requires players who can handle the reins alongside Clark and help support the team for a deep postseason run.

After drafting Clark in 2024, the Fever became a top offensive force. Despite her Rookie of the Year season, Clark’s second year was cut short by a groin injury. Still, her recent performance in the FIBA qualifiers has raised expectations, and the franchise is not taking chances.

Caitlin Clark Reunites With Monique Billings in Indiana

The Fever’s front office has been aggressive in free agency, targeting players who fit with Clark’s playmaking. The franchise has officially signed 6-foot-4 veteran Monique Billings, who spent the 2025 season with the Golden State Valkyries, as an unrestricted free agent.

Billings and Clark were teammates for USA Basketball in March 2026 during the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifiers. The World Cup starts in September.

In the USA’s blowout 110-46 win over Senegal last month, Clark debuted with 17 points, 12 assists, and 4-of-5 shooting. Rhyne Howard scored 21, while Billings added 10 points and 4 rebounds on 4-of-7 shooting.

News of Billings’ signing quickly made waves online, prompting fans and analysts to share their thoughts.

Tony East, the dedicated beat writer for the Indiana Fever and Pacers, reported: “Am told by sources familiar the Fever have agreed to terms on a contract with forward Monique Billings.” He also mentioned that Brazilian-American WBB reporter Roberta (@robertawbb) was the first one to have the news.

Alex Golden, host of PacersPodSTP & Fever Focus, wrote, “The Indiana Fever sign Monique Billings, as multiple sources have confirmed. Billings already has chemistry with Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, making this signing a no-brainer. The newly acquired forward shot 81% at the rim last season!”

Golden believes the Fever will improve offensively if Clark and Billings, who already have chemistry, deepen their understanding of each other’s game.

ESPN’s Alexa Philippou posted, “Can confirm that forward Monique Billings is signing with the Indiana Fever in free agency. Their first big FA newcomer after re-signing Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull. @TonyREast and @chloepeterson67 had it first.”

LiveWire Sports Media (@LiveWireSports1) tweeted, “Let’s Go Mo Mo Billings.”

Billings’ signing is a strategic move by the Fever, giving Clark the physical presence and finishing ability needed to compete with league elites.

How Clark Fits Into the New-Look Fever Rotation

Before landing Billings, it was reported by Tony East that the franchise had also secured Kelsey Mitchell, one of its premier scorers, on a “one-year supermax deal.” The Fever has also “agreed to terms on a new contract with Lexie Hull.”

With Mitchell as another scoring option, Aliyah Boston’s elite rebounding, Hull’s high-energy defense and deep shooting, and Billings’ eight years of experience, Clark is surrounded by some elite talent. As a unit, they can potentially give any team in the WNBA a run for their money.
