‘I’ve Had That in the Bag for a While’ — Caitlin Clark Reveals High-IQ Move in Fever’s OT Win Over Angel Reese’s Dream

Caitlin Clark is praised for her heads-up play against the Dream as the Fever star reveals she's thought about that play for a while now.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever squeaked out a feisty 95-91 win against the Atlanta Dream in OT tonight.

The play that cemented the win was CC’s heads-up decision to chuck the ball away to the other side of the court as time expired. Post-game, she admitted that this wasn’t just a spur-of-the-moment decision.

Caitlin Clark Reveals She’s Been Planning on a Play Like This for a While

The Fever were up by four points with a few seconds left on the shot clock toward the end of OT. All they had to do was let the defensive possession play out and not foul while hoping the Dream would miss their shot attempt.

All three of these things played out to perfection. CC, in her interview after the game, said, “Our main goal was just not to foul in that situation, up four.”

Clark would end up with the rebound, and as time wound down, she threw the ball to the other half of the court.

One user who closely watched CC throw the ball praised her.

“Caitlin Clark has the highest IQ in the league. She deliberately bounced it off the backboard just hard enough to kill the shot clock and still keep possession. Pure chess. Everyone else is playing checkers.”

Post-game, during her on-court interview with Holly Rowe, she was asked about this play of hers.

Clark said, “I’ve had that in the bag for a while. Just chuck it down the court, somebody’s got to go get it, or the clock’s going to run out.”

If the ball had rolled out of bounds, then ATL would’ve gotten the ball back. CC ruined any chance of this happening by keeping the ball on the court.

For a player to have the wherewithal to make this play in such a high-intensity setting showcases just how ever-present Clark is when on WNBA hardwood.

The three-time All-Star ended the game with 26 points on 9-20 shooting from the field while dishing out 9 assists. Head Coach Stephanie White sang her star’s praise ad nauseam post-game.

“I feel like C, over the last four, five games, her floor game has been incredible. We all know she can score in bunches. But the way that she’s getting us into offense, the way she’s using the floor to get her teammates shots. She’s not getting bogged down on one side.”

The Fever are surging toward the top of the standings with a 23-12 record. They’re only 0.5 games back from the Aces, who have the third-best record in the W.

If Clark continues to produce like this on a nightly basis, then expect Indy to make a deep postseason run.
