Is Caitlin Clark Playing Tonight vs. Liberty? Latest Injury Update on Fever Superstar

Is Caitlin Clark playing tonight against the New York Liberty? Here's the latest update on the Indiana Fever star's injury status.

Caitlin Clark limped off the court with tears after the Fever’s win over Connecticut. Not from pain, but from knowing what this could mean. Just four games back from a five-game absence due to the same groin issue that struck again Tuesday night. Now, with the New York Liberty waiting and a playoff push on the line, Indiana faces its biggest question of the 2025 season.

Will Caitlin Clark Suit Up Against the New York Liberty?

The Indiana Fever are slowly finding their rhythm in the 2025 WNBA season and currently hold a 12-10 record. Their most recent victory came on Jul. 15 against the Connecticut Sun, where they secured an 85-77 win.

However, the celebration was short-lived as the game’s final moments brought concerning news for Fever faithful. Despite Clark contributing 14 points and eight rebounds during the game, the superstar guard sustained a non-contact groin injury.

This has left fans anxiously wondering about her availability for tonight’s crucial matchup against the New York Liberty, who currently hold an impressive 14-6 record.

Fever fans might have reason to worry about their upcoming game against the Liberty on Jul. 16. According to ESPN’s latest injury report, there has been no official update on whether Clark will suit up tonight. Head coach Stephanie White stated that a decision will be made only after she undergoes further evaluation.

Moreover it has recently been announced by the team on their official X account that Clark has been listed as “Questionable” for tonight’s game against the Liberty.

Clark’s injury took place late in the fourth quarter of the Fever’s win over the Sun. After delivering a pass to teammate Kelsey Mitchell, Clark took a few steps upcourt before suddenly grabbing the side of her right leg.

Teammate Aliyah Boston approached to check on her, but a frustrated Clark walked away, banging her head against the basket pole before making her way to the bench. There, she covered her head with a towel and appeared to be fighting back tears during the timeout.

“I knew it as an opponent and see it as her coach. I’m not exactly sure why, but it just is what it is, and we’ve got to help her learn to adjust and use it against them in certain ways. We’ve got to find some ways to make it a little bit easier for her,” White said.

“But the level of physicality overall in our league has been at a different level than it’s been for a long time,” said White regarding Clark, as per Alexa Philippou of ESPN. This incident is especially worrying considering her recent injury history. Earlier in the season, Clark also sat out multiple games due to a left quadriceps strain.

How Will the Liberty’s Squad Challenge Indiana?

As the Fever prepare to face the high-powered Liberty tonight, the stakes couldn’t be higher. While New York will be without players like Jonquel Jones, they still boast elite talent. Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, averaging 19.5 and 18.8 points per game, respectively, will remain a serious threat on both ends of the floor.

If Clark is ultimately ruled out, Indiana will need major production from its other stars. Mitchell, who’s averaging 19.3 points per game, and Boston, with 16.0 points per game, will be counted on to carry the offensive load.
