What Happened to Caitlin Clark? Fever Superstar Gets Emotional After Aggravating Injury vs. Sun

Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark appeared to reinjure her groin in Tuesday's 85-77 win over the Connecticut Sun days ahead of the All-Star game.

Caitlin Clark’s injury troubles continue to mount. Just when the Indiana Fever superstar seemed to be finding her rhythm again, another setback struck in the final minute of Tuesday’s game against Connecticut. The painful scene of Clark holding her groin and fighting back tears left fans wondering: how much more can the phenom endure?

What Happened During Caitlin Clark’s Latest Injury Scare?

With under a minute remaining in the Fever’s clash against the Connecticut Sun at TD Garden, Clark delivered a backdoor pass to Kelsey Mitchell, who completed an easy layup. However, as she walked back to her bench when a timeout was called after this play, Clark held her groin and appeared to be in pain.

Indiana Fever reporter Scott Agness wrote on X, “Caitlin Clark holding right groin area (other side) after bounce pass to Mitchell for the layup. Holding back tears. Gatorade towel on her head. Ouch.”

The concerning detail emerged from Agness’ observation that Clark appeared to hold the right side of her groin area, not the left side, which was previously injured.

How Does This Compare to Clark’s Previous Groin Injury?

Clark had suffered a left groin injury earlier this season that forced her out of action for five games. The timing couldn’t have been worse, as she missed the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup final while recovering from that injury.

Clark Report, an X account that closely tracks the Indiana Fever superstar’s basketball career, shared a video of the play where Clark appeared to get injured and wrote, “Caitlin Clark appears to grab her previously injured groin after the assist to KM.”

Adding to Clark’s frustration, she had also suffered a left quadriceps injury earlier this season, which also saw her miss five games. She has dealt with a seemingly endless cycle of injuries that have disrupted her rhythm and kept her off the court.

Are the Repeated Injuries Responsible for Clark’s Shooting Struggles?

Despite the injury concern, the Indiana Fever came away with an 85-77 win over Connecticut. However, Clark’s shooting struggles continued as she put up 14 points on just 4-14 from the field and 1-7 from 3-point range. She also added eight rebounds, seven assists, and one steal while leading her team with a plus-21 rating.

Clark recently opened up about her injury-ridden season and said, “Just being so in and out of the lineup, and some inconsistencies, really challenged me mentally, and I know this is all going to certainly pay off at some point… So, just trying to deal with it that way.”

The constant interruptions to her season have clearly taken a toll on Clark’s mental approach to the game. Her shooting percentages reflect the difficulty of maintaining rhythm when injuries keep pulling her away from consistent playing time.

Following the game, Fever reporter Chloe Peterson shared a video of Indiana coach Stephanie White’s comments and tweeted, “Steph White said Caitlin Clark ‘felt a little something in her groin’ at the end of the game, which caused her to come out with 30 seconds left. She’s being evaluated now.”

The evaluation process will determine whether Clark faces another extended absence or if this was simply a minor scare that won’t require significant time away from the court.
