Clark and Brink were two of the most dominant college players in the nation during the 2024 season. While Clark excelled as a scorer and was voted the AP Player of the Year, Brink was known for her strong defensive abilities and would go on to be named the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year. Approaching the 2024 WNBA draft, it seemed inevitable that the two talents would be at the top end of the draft board.

April 15, 2024, was a special day for both Brink and Clark. The Indiana Fever selected Clark with the first pick. Brink’s name was announced shortly after, with the Los Angeles Sparks drafting the 6-foot-4 forward with the second pick.

A video of Clark and Brink sharing a heartwarming moment at the draft has been circulating on social media. In the short clip, the rookies can be seen embracing and congratulating each other.

Brink looked overjoyed to see Clark, letting out a short but piercing scream. When the two hugged, Clark made sure to tell Brink how proud she was of her. The Sparks forward responded with an “I love you,” a sentiment which the Fever guard echoed.

Clark and Brink had contrasting seasons in the WNBA. While Brink showed glimpses of brilliance over the early stage of the campaign, a torn ACL injury meant the 22-year-old would miss the final three months of the season.

Clark went on to have arguably the greatest rookie season in WNBA history. She shattered a handful of WNBA records, most notably the single-game assists record and the single-season assists record. The Iowa native was also instrumental in guiding the Indiana Fever back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
