What Happened to Jauan Jennings? Breaking Down Why the 49ers WR Is Out in Week 5 TNF Matchup vs. Rams

San Francisco 49ers WR Jauan Jennings is one of many players that will not suit up on Thursday Night Football against the LA Rams.

A pair of injuries was enough to keep San Francisco 49ers WR Jauan Jennings out of action on Thursday Night Football. The 49ers, who have been dealing with more injuries than they can count, are set to battle the 3-1 Los Angeles Rams.

Also, 3-1, San Francisco lost their first game of the year. They’re going into SoFi Stadium as two-score underdogs against QB Matthew Stafford and company.

Will San Francisco 49ers Wide Receiver Jauan Jennings Miss Week 5?

On Wednesday, October 1, Jennings was among the few key players ruled out for the 49ers. In addition to the 28-year-old wideout, QB Brock Purdy and fellow WRs Ricky Pearsall and Jordan Watkins were also ruled out. Injuries have plagued this team, yet somehow, they remain 3-1.

The short week did no favors for Jennings as he’s set to miss his second game of the season. Jennings did not play in the team’s 16-15 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. He returned to the field in Week 4, as did Purdy, but now both are set to miss Week 5. Ultimately, the 49ers’ plan backfired as their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars set them back on some of their biggest playmakers.

Jennings’ presence will be missed as he led the team with 89 receiving yards in Week 2. He currently has nine receptions for 129 yards with a touchdown. Besides his massive performance against the New Orleans Saints, he’s been relatively lackluster. In Week 1, Jennings had just two receptions for 16 yards. Last Sunday, he had a pair of receptions for 24 yards.

Heading into TNF, the 49ers will be without their top and third-best receiver. Pearsall tops the list with 20 receptions for 327 yards. Jennings sits in third place with only RB Christian McCaffrey ahead of him. Remember, San Francisco still hasn’t had WR Brandon Aiyuk out on the field. Upon his return, and with everyone else healthy, this will be an entirely different team.

QB Mac Jones has his work cut out for him, as there’s no other receiver on this team with more than 100 receiving yards. Jones, who’s started two games this season, has earned a B- in PFSN’s QB Impact metric. Fellow QB, Purdy, sits at a B+. HC Kyle Shanahan’s backup has sufficed as the 49ers continue to do damage with the current state of their roster. They are ranked 11th in the NFL with a C+ in PFSN’s Offense Impact.
