What Happened to Dak Prescott? Joe Milton Enters Game for Cowboys Late in 4th Quarter vs. Bears

Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott was taken out of the game against Chicago in the fourth quarter. Is something wrong with Prescott?

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott didn’t really have a great game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, with Dallas losing 31-14 in the fourth quarter, decided to replace Prescott at quarterback with Joe Milton. Chicago won the game by that 31-14 score.

Prescott threw a crucial interception with Dallas right on the doorstep to score a touchdown. That might have been the thing that led Schottenheimer to pull him.

What Happened with Dak Prescott?

At times, Prescott wasn’t able to connect with his wide receivers.

He did lose CeeDee Lamb to an ankle injury early in the game, so that took out one of his trusted targets. Milton didn’t look too hot, either, as he threw an interception late in the fourth quarter.

For the game, Prescott went 31-of-40 passing for 251 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. He connected with George Pickens for that lone TD pass. But Prescott was really bothered a lot by the Chicago defensive line.

How’s Prescott looking overall this season? He’s 59-of-86 passing for 549 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception with a quarterback rating of 88.8.

Milton was acquired during the offseason in a trade with the New England Patriots for a fifth-round draft pick. The Cowboys needed a replacement as Prescott’s former backup, Cooper Rush, headed out to play for the Baltimore Ravens.

Does Prescott Talked About Joe Milton in Offseason

When the Milton trade went down, Prescott wasn’t too happy about losing Rush.

“I don’t know if I could ever put a value on what Cooper Rush has meant to me throughout my career, honestly,” Prescott said. “The only year he wasn’t my backup was the year I got hurt within five games. You’re talking about a guy who approaches the game the right way, is a real man off the field, a true leader in what he does, and the way that he walks.”

When asked about the acquisition of Milton from the Patriots, Prescott expressed his excitement. “I’m excited to add Joe to this room, and Will as well,” the Cowboys star said.
If another one gets added in the meantime, it’s all about elevating our game as the leaders, as the quarterback position, to make sure the message to the rest of the team is clear and concise.”

The Cowboys offensive line was not able to fully protect Prescott as well. Put all of those things together and it is a recipe for disaster and a loss.

Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson was Prescott’s main target with 13 receptions for 82 yards and no touchdowns. The rest of Prescott’s potential receiving corps only had receptions in single digits.

What Will Brian Schottenheimer Say About Prescott?

After the game, Cowboys fans were not happy with what they saw take place. When Prescott threw that fourth-quarter interception, cameras caught Cowboys owner-general manager Jerry Jones shaking his head in his box.

Prescott was a fourth-round draft choice out of Mississippi State in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Cowboys. He has missed time due to injuries and hasn’t been able to lead Dallas back into the Super Bowl. Prescott has earned a lot of respect for his off-field work around suicide prevention.

It’s going to be interesting to see what Schottenheimer says to the press after the game over, pulling Prescott from the game. There apparently was no injury issue with Prescott. Some may wonder if Schottenheimer has lost some respect for Prescott. But this is Schottenheimer’s first season as Dallas’ head coach.

The Cowboys now fall to 1-2 overall and are looking for answers on offense as well as defense. Prescott will have his fair share of critics after Sunday’s loss at Soldier Field as he was outplayed by Bears quarterback Caleb Williams.

Did you ever think Dak was pulled from the game because we had lost the game and we had already lost CD to injury so there was nothing good that could have come from Dak playing the final series of the game down 17. You are just trying to make a story where there isn’t one…
