What Happened to Christian McCaffrey?

McCaffrey is no stranger to working through injuries and has been cautious throughout training camp. He is an essential piece to the puzzle for the 49ers, and there is no reason for McCaffrey to risk an injury that could jeopardize his season.

McCaffrey took his time and is now back on the practice field for the 49ers.

This is great news for the 49ers, but not surprising at all. It was revealed that the 49ers had planned to manage McCaffrey’s workload in training camp by ramping him up, cooling him down, and getting him going again as the season nears. As long as McCaffrey doesn’t have any setbacks, he won’t miss any more time than he already has, except for potential rest days.

Their focus is on getting McCaffrey the reps he needs to enter Week 1 in the best shape possible. McCaffrey should be ready for the 49ers to take on the Rams when they travel to Melbourne, Australia, in Week 1.

McCaffrey is one of the best running backs in the NFL and a dynamic threat as a pass catcher. He led the 49ers in rushing with 1,202 yards and also receiving with 102 catches and 924 yards. He was the 3rd-ranked running back in PFN’s RB Impact score with a grade of 86.2.

San Francisco shouldn’t have anything to worry about with McCaffrey, but they added some help in the running back room in the offseason anyway.

They brought in rookie RB Kaelon Black from the national champion Indiana Hoosiers. Black is stepping in to replace Brian Robinson Jr., who played the backup role last season before heading to Atlanta to play the same role there.

The 49ers have their work cut out for them. The NFC West is setting up to be home to some of the league’s juggernauts. The Los Angeles Rams are Super Bowl favorites, and the Seattle Seahawks are looking to defend their crown.

The 49ers are aiming to prove that they belong in that class as one of the NFC favorites.

Health issues have plagued San Francisco over the past few seasons, but it’s a good sign that most of their key weapons are getting healthy. After learning Ricky Pearsall would miss the entire season, it’s been mostly good news since. McCaffrey is ready for Week 1, and Kittle is back in action after his torn Achilles, too.

It’s time for the 49ers to put it all together as they aim to get over the hump that has thwarted them consistently over the past few years.
