The Los Angeles Chargers face the Philadelphia Eagles tonight on Monday Night Football. Justin Herbert, who recently underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his left hand, was listed as questionable entering the matchup.
However, the Chargers star will play tonight, though the injury could limit him from playing at full strength. He’ll be wearing protective gear on his non-throwing hand to help prevent further damage.
Latest on Justin Herbert’s Injury
The Chargers are desperate for a win tonight, as they are in a tight race for the playoffs in the AFC. Entering the game against the Eagles, according to PFSN’s NFL Playoff Predictor, they have a 65.60% chance of making the postseason.
That puts even more importance on having Herbert out there and performing at a high level. According to NFL Network’s Omar Ruiz, the Chargers star will be taking a precaution to protect himself against the Eagles.
“Chargers QB Justin Herbert, wearing a padded glove on his surgically repaired left hand, is expected to start tonight vs. the Eagles, source confirms,” wrote Ruiz on X. Herbert had been listed as questionable after breaking his left hand last Sunday & having subsequent surgery Monday.”

The Chargers enter their matchup with Philadelphia at 8-4 and entirely in control of their playoff path. Having Herbert under center gives them a much better shot to keep it that way, as facing a powerhouse like the Eagles with Trey Lance starting would have made things far more difficult for Los Angeles.

On Wednesday, Herbert spoke about his availability against the Eagles. “That’s the plan, is to prepare as if I’m going to play,” the Charger star said, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic. “See how the next couple of days go and do everything I can to be out there for the team.”
Hopefully, the 27-year-old quarterback will be able to make an impact for his team. So far this season, Herbert has thrown for 2,842 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. According to PFSN’s QB Impact metric, he is the 12th-ranked quarterback in the league this season.
