What Happened to Brian Thomas Jr.? Breaking Down Why the Jaguars WR Is Not Playing in Week 11

Brian Thomas Jr. is not playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11 against the Chargers. Here is the latest update on the wide receiver.

After a dynamic rookie season, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has hit a bit of a sophomore slump. He’s had trouble finding rhythm in first-year head coach Liam Coen’s offense, and the inconsistency has been reflected in his production.

He’s also been dealing with several nagging injuries throughout the year, including wrist and shoulder issues that have made it harder for him to regain momentum.

Brian Thomas Jr. Injury Update

To make things worse, he’s now working through an ankle injury that sidelined him last week and will keep him out in Week 11 as well.

Late in the Jaguars’ Week 9 matchup against the Raiders, Brian Thomas Jr. made a big-time catch-and-run into Las Vegas territory, but he was pulled down awkwardly from behind. Thomas immediately stood up and began limping before collapsing to the ground in pain.

He left the game and was soon ruled questionable to return. Thomas attempted to come back, but his ankle kept him sidelined. The Jaguars eventually forced overtime and defeated the Raiders 30-29, but Thomas did not retake the field. He did not play in Week 10 as Jacksonville suffered a brutal 36-29 loss against the Houston Texans.

Fast-forward to this week, as the Jaguars host the Los Angeles Chargers. Thomas was listed as questionable on Friday afternoon, according to the Jaguars’ official practice report, after participating in three straight limited practices from Wednesday through Friday. Unfortunately, various reports confirmed on Saturday that Thomas will not play in Week 11.

Jacksonville would have loved to have its #1 wide receiver back in the lineup, as they prepare for the 7-3 Chargers on Sunday. The Jaguars currently hold the 7-seed in the playoff picture and, with the #25-ranked offense according to PFSN’s Offense Impact metric, they will need all the help they can get

Jacksonville Jaguars’ Insights for Week 11

Team: The Jaguars are entering a critical stretch to maintain their playoff hopes after losing a 19-point lead to the Texans. After hosting the Chargers, Jacksonville will play at Arizona and Tennessee.

QB: Trevor Lawrence has his best QBi score (78.4, C+) performance in Week 9. In Week 10 against the Texans, he had his third-worst score, 71.1 (C-), of the season. Two of his three lowest have been against Houston.

Offense: Travis Etienne has 656 rush yards and three rush touchdowns on 135 attempts. Last season, he had 98 fewer rushing yards and only two scores on 150 attempts. His RBi grade for 2025 is a B- compared to a D+ last season.

Defense: The Jaguars have had a D+ or worse DEFi grade in four of their last five games.

Fantasy: Travis Etienne scored for the first time since September last week and has 45 touches over the past two weeks (previous three games: 40 touches). The efficiency has been limited of late (3.7 yards per carry in November), but the volume is enough to feel fine about him being your RB2 moving forward.
