‘I Am the Best Teammate In the History of the [NFL]’ — Von Miller Shuts Down Naysayers After Surprise Cowboys Signing

After choosing the Dallas Cowboys, Von Miller has extremely high hopes for what he and the team can achieve this season.

In the wake of the Micah Parsons trade, the Dallas Cowboys had an underwhelming 2025 campaign.

Defense was their Achilles heel all year long, leading to a concentrated effort from the organization to improve on that side of the football. Throughout free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft, it remained their focus, with some blockbuster additions to the unit.

Now, with Week 1 of the preseason in the books, their latest addition comes in the form of two-time Super Bowl champion Von Miller.

Cowboys’ Von Miller Underlines His True Value

A first-round pick for the Denver Broncos in 2011, Miller was a game-wrecking presence on the defensive line almost immediately. Grabbing seven All-Pro selections in his first eight seasons, his dominance paved the way for their victory in Super Bowl 50.

Named the Super Bowl MVP in that game, his numbers haven’t been as prolific since he left the Broncos. While he’s added another title to his resume, his stints with the Buffalo Bills and the Washington Commanders were underwhelming, to say the least.

As a result, expectations aren’t super high about what he can achieve with the Cowboys, as they try to improve on a defense that ranked dead last in PFSN’s Defense Impact Metrics. Miller, though, is still confident in his abilities.

During an appearance on the “Nightcap” podcast, he explained the value he could still bring to Dallas. “They can say what they wanna say about my on-field production. But there is no question about it, I am the best teammate in the history of the National Football League,” Von Miller said.

Taking pride in his ability as a locker room leader, he stressed that his experience is going to be invaluable for the Cowboys, particularly as they integrate several new and young pieces into a new system.

“When it comes to being a great teammate, I just know how to do it. I’ve been doing it for a long time, I know how to bring the guys together, I know how to win my guys over. Every team that I’ve ever been on, there’s not a guy in that locker room that’s gonna say anything bad about me.”

That camaraderie, he believes, can have a major impact on the on-field production level as well. “I can win 10-13 plays in the game, and that’s with me not even stepping on the football field. It’s just the type of knowledge of the game that I know and to be able to get the guys to play around me to a level that they wouldn’t normally play at.”

But from an individual standpoint as well, Miller is no slouch. Last season, he ranked at number 61 in PFN’s EDGE Impact Rankings, which would be the third-highest mark on the Cowboys. He firmly believes that he can be even better this year.

“I can still walk into eight to 10 sacks now. I’m gonna have the opportunity to do it. We got one of the best offenses in the National Football League. I’m gonna be able to play with the lead,” he claimed, before adding, “Just being the type of player that I am, even at this stage in my career, I feel like I can be effective.”

It remains to be seen if the shift to the Cowboys helps add even more hardware to his trophy cabinet. But given his ties to the city, it looks like Miller is rejuvenated and hungry for a new challenge going into his 15th season.
