Alabama Star Ty Simpson Projected To Get Selected by Super Bowl Contender in 2026 NFL Draft

The Alabama Crimson Tide are preparing for the College Football Playoff, and their quarterback could be one of the top passers in the 2026 draft.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are preparing to take on the Oklahoma Sooners on Friday night in the first game of the 2025 College Football Playoff. The Tide enter the game with an impressive 10-3 record.

One of the reasons for the team’s success in 2025 has been the stellar play of quarterback Ty Simpson. The passer could return to school, but it’s also possible he could be a first round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Which NFC Contender Is Predicted To Land Alabama QB Ty Simpson in the 2026 NFL Draft?

In 2025, Simpson has played in 13 games and has thrown for 3,268 yards with 26 touchdowns and five interceptions. Simpson has completed 64.3% of his passes and leads the SEC in completions.

PFSN’s own James Fragoza recently published an updated three-round mock draft. In this mock, Fragoza has Simpson going to the Los Angeles Rams with the No. 31 pick.

Regarding this selection, Fragoza offered the following analysis, “With their first first-round pick going toward the present, the Rams use their second to attend to the future. Ty Simpson flashed franchise signal-caller potential during his first year as Alabama’s starter. While his late-season play has fallen off, the highs are worth betting on, especially with the second-to-last selection in Round 1.”

As Fragoza mentioned, the Rams currently own two first-round selections in 2026, so they can afford to use one on a developmental piece like Simpson.

The Rams still have Matthew Stafford, who, even at age 37, has been playing like one of the best quarterbacks in the league. However, the veteran is only under contract for one more season; it’s possible he could retire after 2026.

In this scenario, Simpson could learn behind Stafford in 2026 and prepare to take over the starting job in 2027. The Rams don’t appear to have their quarterback of the future on the roster right now, so Simpson is a logical fit.

There are some concerns about Simpson’s inconsistency and only having one year of starting experience. However, the quarterback has an NFL arm and is athletic enough to make plays with his legs.

Rams Could Be Perfect Landing Spot for Simpson

There may not be a more perfect landing spot for Simpson than the Rams. Sean McVay is widely thought of as one of the top offensive minds in the league, and he regularly gets the most out of his players.

Additionally, Stafford is a future Hall of Famer who also played in the SEC like Simpson. The Alabama product could definitely learn behind Stafford, which would be a better scenario than being thrust into a starting role immediately.

The Rams also have an elite roster around the quarterback. PFSN’s Offense Impact ranking gives the Rams’ unit a league-best 94.4 grade, while PFSN’s Defense Impact ranking gives the Rams’ unit an 84.7 grade.
