The Miami Dolphins fell to the Cleveland Browns 31-6 at home Sunday, dropping them to 1-6 in 2025 and adding more fuel to the potential firing of head coach Mike McDaniel. Front and center was the poor play of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who threw three interceptions as well as putting the ball on the ground three times. This comes one week after 6th year starter called out teammates for not attending players-only meetings.
Shannon Sharpe Calls Out Tua Tagovailoa
Legendary Broncos tight end, Shannon Sharpe, had plenty to say about Tagovailoa on his YouTube show “NightCap” alongside former Bengals receiver, Chad Ochocinco. The hall-of-famer did not hold back his criticism of the Dolphins quarterback especially in light of what he said just a week ago, pointing out that the recent struggles, are not just recent saying, “Tua has the most two-interception games in the NFL since 2022.
Ocho, this is why tell you…quarterbacks…keep your mouth shut. We are gonna have a conversation about your guy in Tennessee…but that’s why you keep your mouth shut.”
Tagovailoa has had a two-week stretch he’d like to forget. After throwing for 11 touchdowns and just three interceptions over the first five games, he’s thrown just one touchdown and six interceptions in the last two outings.
Sharpe then went nuclear on him and the Dolphins unit stating, “And it wasn’t like Cleveland did a whole lot. It was just that you were so pathetic, the Miami offense was so anemic, they didn’t really have to do anything because you gave them short fields…you gave up a pick-six.”
Miami Dolphins Struggle On and Off the Field Amid QB Turmoil
The optics of what Tagovailoa said after their previous loss to the Los Angeles Chargers was bad, but his subsequent apology during his midweek media availability showed a lack of accountability that Sharpe sounded off on, “I thought you were saying sorry because you were taking the onus of accountability, but that’s not what he did.
And think about it Ocho, he said that after throwing three picks. He follows that up again with another three picks. So how do I look at you…if I’m a player Ocho…you got the ‘C’ on your jersey…you’re supposed be one of our best players and a large part to whey we’re ineffective offensively, is because of you.”
Tagovailoa was benched late in the contest in favor of rookie Quinn Ewers, who finished with 53 yards passing in his NFL debut. The Dolphins are a rudder-less ship it seems, as their head coach seems to be a lame duck, their most exciting player out for the entire season and a quarterback who is slowly grading out worse and worse according to PFSN’s QB Impact rankings.
Things won’t get easier for this Miami squad with a trip to Atlanta to face the Falcons in Week 8 followed by three straight home matchups with playoff teams from a year ago before their bye in Week 12. This Dolphins team will likely look entirely different by the time Thanksgiving rolls around where maybe then the players can have that meeting.
