What Happened to Travis Hunter? A Look at Why the Jaguars Star Is Not Playing in Week 11

Travis Hunter is not playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11. Here's the latest on the star rookie's injury and return timeline.

Travis Hunter has had an interesting rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In Week 7, he delivered his best performance as a wide receiver, posting career highs with eight catches for 101 yards and recording his first NFL touchdown.

The Jaguars went into their bye week afterward, but the momentum was cut short by unfortunate news. Hunter suffered a knee injury during practice and is now sidelined.

Travis Hunter Injury Update

Hunter was placed on injured reserve (IR) a couple of weeks ago and was projected to miss a minimum of four weeks, pinning his potential return at week 13. Unfortunately, ahead of Week 11, the Jaguars received a brutal update on their rookie’s status.

NFL insider Adam Schefter was on the opening injury report, claiming that while Hunter’s bump required an IR placement.

On Tuesday, Nov. 11, Schefter revealed that Hunter has undergone a season-ending surgery. “Travis Hunter underwent surgery today to repair his LCL which will sideline him for the remainder of the season,” he wrote on X. “There was no additional damage beyond his LCL The procedure was done by Dr. Cooper and Dr. Kaplan in Dallas. He’s expected to return to full football activities within six months.”

The Jaguars are 5-4 on the season, and have lost three out of their last four games. Although they are in a considerably weaker division, the AFC South, Hunter’s injury, along with the Indianapolis Colts’ ascension, has now made it extremely tough for their chances of making the postseason. According to PFSN’s NFL Playoff Predictor, the Jaguars currently have a 44.1% chance of making the playoffs.

The injury comes at an awful time for Hunter, who appeared to be breaking out as a wide receiver in his most recent game. His new career-highs in receptions and yards helped to elevate him to the 60th-ranked player in his position in the most recent PFSN WR Impact Rankings. He has 28 receptions for 298 yards on the year so far.

The Jaguars made a bold move in the 2025 NFL Draft to trade up for Hunter, who contributes on both offense and defense. Through seven games, he recorded 15 tackles and three passes defended in addition to his impact at wide receiver.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ Insights for Week 11

Team: The Jaguars are entering a critical stretch to maintain their playoff hopes after losing a 19-point lead to the Texans. After hosting the Chargers, Jacksonville will play at Arizona and Tennessee.

QB: Trevor Lawrence has his best QBi score (78.4, C+) performance in Week 9. In Week 10 against the Texans, he had his third-worst score, 71.1 (C-), of the season. Two of his three lowest have been against Houston.

Offense: Travis Etienne has 656 rush yards and three rush touchdowns on 135 attempts. Last season, he had 98 fewer rushing yards and only two scores on 150 attempts. His RBi grade for 2025 is a B- compared to a D+ last season.

Defense: The Jaguars have had a D+ or worse DEFi grade in four of their last five games.

Fantasy: Travis Etienne scored for the first time since September last week and has 45 touches over the past two weeks (previous three games: 40 touches). The efficiency has been limited of late (3.7 yards per carry in November), but the volume is enough to feel fine about him being your RB2 moving forward.
