The NFL free agency period is expected to reshape several backfields around the league. The market’s most productive running back is drawing attention as an ideal fit for multiple playoff contenders.
A recent CBS Sports analysis examined how Breece Hall’s skill set could align with teams seeking to bolster their backfields.
Breece Hall Could Be the Key Offensive Weapon Texans Need After Joe Mixon Injury
CBS Sports analyst John Breech highlighted the Texans as a logical fit for Hall because of the unsettled situation. Breech described Hall as a true dual-threat back who surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in a difficult Jets offense. Hall also finished second on the team in receptions. He fell just 45 yards short of leading the Jets in receiving.
The Texans reached the postseason despite rotating Nick Chubb and Woody Marks after veteran Joe Mixon was lost to a mysterious injury, which kept him out all year. Breech said targeting a player with Hall’s profile would make sense for an offense built around quarterback C.J. Stroud and could provide the Texans a stable option entering 2026.
Hall has produced one of the best seasons of his career in 2025. He averaged a career-high 69.6 yards per game and ranked 14th in PFSN’s RBi metric. The Jets are projected to hold more than $100 million in cap space this offseason, but Hall’s rookie contract expires in March, creating a decision point for both sides.
Hall rushed for a career-high 1,065 yards and four touchdowns while adding 350 receiving yards on 36 catches. Over his four-year career (2022–2025), he has accumulated 3,398 rushing yards and 27 total touchdowns, consistently averaging nearly 90 total yards per game.
Breech also outlined Kansas City and Denver as teams where Hall would be a strong schematic match. He asked what Patrick Mahomes could do with a weapon like Hall and emphasized the value of a back who can operate as a receiver. In Denver, Breech referenced uncertainty around J.K. Dobbins and the Broncos’ search for a consistent tandem in Sean Payton’s system.
Additional analysis via PFSN pointed to Washington, Seattle, Cincinnati, and Denver as clubs with the resources where Hall’s style fits. Washington ranks fifth in the NFL with nearly $82 million in cap space and could pair Hall with quarterback Jayden Daniels to elevate a run game that has relied on rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt.

Denver must weigh whether to extend Dobbins or pursue a more durable option in Hall, who has missed just one game over the last three years and offers greater receiving versatility. Breech concluded that numerous contenders would view Hall as an attractive addition and that the back could fit a Super Bowl roster sooner rather than later.
