The season is getting out of hand for the Washington Commanders in a hurry. After competing in last year’s NFC Championship Game, the team currently sits in 12th place in the NFC, having lost to the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. One of the biggest reasons for their struggles right out of the gate, as they sit at 3-3, has been the injuries that have decimated the roster through the first six weeks of the season.
Their superstar quarterback, Jayden Daniels, has already missed two games, with designated WR2, Terry McLaurin, also suiting up for just three encounters. While the team got Daniels back two weeks ago, the same hasn’t been true for McLaurin. The season seems to be quickly becoming an uphill battle for Washington. Will they get their clear-cut WR1 back in the lineup in Week 7 against a heated divisional rival?
Will Terry McLaurin Play Against the Cowboys?
The thing that has made McLaurin special ever since he was drafted as a third-round pick in 2019 is his unique mix of productivity and availability. After 919 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie season, his numbers took a serious jump in 2020.
The first of five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, it was also the last time he did not play in all 17 games for the Commanders. That was, until this year. After a lengthy contract negotiation that even included a trade request from him, McLaurin was ultimately brought back to Washington.
But, less than three full games into the 2025 campaign, his streak came to an end. Trying to dive for a 56-yard touchdown reception against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3, it first became clear that McLaurin wasn’t 100% as he came back up.
As it turned out, he was diagnosed with an injury to his right quad. Since then, he’s missed the franchise’s next three games, including the last two with Daniels back in the lineup. Ranked 14th on PFSN’s WRi previous season, his loss has been vividly felt by the Commanders.
As they try to right the ship against Dallas in Week 7, the updates regarding his return aren’t all that positive. Even though head coach Dan Quin confirmed that he would return to practice this week, reality hasn’t entirely played out that way.
On Wednesday, he was a limited participant. However, that seems to have taken a step back on Thursday. As Adam Schefter confirmed on X, “Commanders WR Terry McLaurin, who missed the past three games with a quad injury, was not present at today’s practice ahead of Sunday’s game vs. the Cowboys.”
On Friday, Quinn confirmed that McLaurin is officially out for the Week 7 game against the Cowboys.
