5-Time Pro Bowler Explains What’s Really Holding Back Patriots LT Will Campbell After Super Bowl Struggles

Will Campbell had an ugly performance for the Patriots in the Super Bowl and now a former NFL great is offering his advice.

The New England Patriots had an incredible regular season and reached the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the Super Bowl didn’t go the way they hoped, as the Seattle Seahawks earned a convincing 29-13 victory.

In the aftermath of the loss, rookie left tackle Will Campbell has faced significant criticism for his play. On Wednesday, a former elite left tackle in the NFL offered his opinion on Campbell’s struggles.

Terron Armstead Comments on Will Campbell’s Struggles as a Rookie

Campbell had good moments as a rookie but struggled mightily in the postseason. Against the Seahawks, Campbell allowed 14 pressures and one sack. Terron Armstead, meanwhile, was one of the best left tackles of his generation. Armstead entered the league as a third-round pick in 2013 and ended up earning five Pro Bowl selections and was a Second-team All-Pro with the New Orleans Saints in 2018.

On Wednesday, NFL reporter Cameron Wolfe revealed that he spoke with Armstead about Campbell’s struggles, and the former Pro Bowler offered his opinion on why Campbell is struggling.

“(Armstead) said it has nothing to do with his arm length,” Wolfe explained. “He said it was his set and he’s having issues with power and his timing.”

Armstead also reportedly believes Campbell’s issues are “fixable,” and invited the LSU product to Dallas to work out with him this offseason. According to Wolfe, Armstead also still believes Campbell can be a “really good tackle” at the NFL level.

Before the 2025 NFL Draft, many in the football community expressed concerns about Campbell’s arm length. The thinking was that Campbell might eventually have to move to the guard position. For what it’s worth, head coach Mike Vrabel said he has no interest in moving Campbell from left tackle.

As a rookie, Campbell started 13 games for the Patriots at left tackle. PFSN’s OL Impact metric gave Campbell a 75.1 grade, which ranked 39th out of 107 qualified tackles. Overall, the Patriots’ offensive line performed well in 2025. PFSN’s Team OL Impact metric ranked the unit 12th out of 32 teams with a 74.5 grade.

Campbell has to feel good that he at least has his coach’s support. As a top pick, Campbell will likely get several more chances before any drastic moves are made. It’s also not surprising to see a rookie struggle at one of the most important positions in the game.

It will be interesting to see if Campbell takes Armstead up on his offer. It’s not every day you get the chance to privately work with a multiple-time Pro Bowler.
