Alcaraz and Sinner have faced each other ten times so far, with the former leading their head-to-head at 6-4. The most recent battle between the two at last year’s China Open final saw the Spaniard edge Sinner in an exciting three-set thriller. Now, under the Roman sun and with a boisterous home crowd on his side, the World No. 1 gets a shot at winning his maiden Masters 1000 title on clay.
Sinner recently returned from a doping-related suspension and has already made quite an impact in his comeback tournament. The 23-year-old triumphed over Mariano Navone, Jesper de Jong, 17th seed Francisco Cerundolo, sixth seed Casper Ruud, and 11th seed Tommy Paul to reach the final.

After clinching his semifinal victory, Sinner offered thoughtful insight into his upcoming test against the World No. 3.
“We know each other quite well now. It’s always special to share the court with him,” the top-seeded Italian remarked in his post-match press conference. “I feel like we both know how to play against each other a little bit, so we have to be prepared tactically.”
Sinner sees the clash as an opportunity to measure his progress ahead of the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships.
“It’s just a great test for me to see where I am,” he added. “It’s great for me to play against Carlos before the two Grand Slams. That for me is good because I see where I have to improve, what I have to do better. But yeah, hopefully it’s going to be a good match. I feel like this is the most important part.”

Carlos Alcaraz, for his part, was equally gracious in speaking about his Italian rival. The 22-year-old Spaniard acknowledged Sinner’s red-hot form during his press appearance.
“He’s playing great. I’ve been watching his matches. His level is really high right now,” Alcaraz said. “Every time that I play against him is always a battle, is always really, really tough. I kind of enjoy that moments, as well.”
Alcaraz spoke about the challenge of playing against Sinner on his home turf, stating:
“Playing against him at home with the people behind him supporting him — it’s going to be a really difficult challenge. But let’s see. I’m going to watch the match tonight. Who wins tonight deserves to be in the final. It going to be a really difficult one.”
