Taylor Fritz’s Opponent Alexander Bublik Gets Honest on American ‘Not Being 100%’ During Paris Masters Loss

Taylor Fritz's run at the Paris Masters came to an end after losing to Alexander Bublik in the third round.

Alexander Bublik beat fourth seed Taylor Fritz 7-6(5), 6-2 at the Rolex Paris Masters, pulling off one of the week’s biggest surprises. The 13th seed made the quarterfinals on Thursday in Paris, keeping his chances of reaching Turin alive. Fritz had already qualified for the ATP Finals earlier this week, but couldn’t build the momentum he needed heading into the season finale.

Alexander Bublik Talks About the Change in Taylor Fritz’s Mindset

Bublik controlled the match from start to finish, showing the precision serving and tactical shot placement that have marked his 2025 season. The first set went to a tiebreaker, where every point mattered and both players fought hard to claim the opener. Bublik won it 7-5 in a tight battle before dominating the second set 6-2, where Fritz simply couldn’t find the consistency needed to challenge the Kazakh’s form.

Bublik stayed focused during the tiebreaker, executing cleanly while Fritz’s usually solid serve and return weren’t working right. The American had four break point chances throughout the match, yet failed to convert them, showing Bublik’s defense was completely locked in.

After Bublik won that crucial tiebreaker, his confidence clearly grew with each game, and he controlled the second set easily, breaking Fritz’s serve once more to wrap it up in straight sets.

After the match, Bublik broke down his win, stating: I think I used every chance I had except for the first set. I was really lucky at the tiebreak. He missed a couple easy shots that he usually doesn’t miss.”

“Probably the slow court didn’t really favor him. I felt great today. My forehands were sitting in. I was hitting the spots. For me, it’s the chances that I used,” he added.

Bublik also said that Fritz was not at his best because he had to compete in the ATP Finals in Turin, jokingly saying that it was more important than progressing further at the Paris Masters.

“For me it’s the chances that I used and obviously him not being 100% I think. Because he has a very important tournament to go. It’s way more important than beating me here, huh?” the Kazakh said.

The two came in with a 3-3 head-to-head record, so this win was big for Bublik as he now leads in their rivalry.
