Why Emma Raducanu Is Sparking Concern Ahead of Wimbledon

Following her first-round exit at the French Open, Raducanu made headlines by bouncing back strongly at the Queen’s Club Championships. The Brit commenced her grass-court season with a dominant win over Anna Blinkova and went on to beat Sorana Cîrstea, Kamilla Rakhimova, and Iva Jovic in straight sets to book her spot in the final.

Although the 23-year-old was looking to win her first tour-level title since triumphing at the 2021 US Open, she fell short against Donna Vekić in the final. Subsequently, Raducanu withdrew from the Nottingham Open, a decision that earned her criticism from Andy Roddick.

The Brit recently arrived at Wimbledon and began training for her campaign. However, Raducanu’s preparations suffered a setback as she was spotted leaving Aorangi Park with an orthopedic boot on her right leg. As reported by CLAY, she did not take part in a practice session on Wednesday, but she is scheduled to return to the practice courts on Thursday.

Thomas Houchin, one of Raducanu’s representatives, eased concerns by revealing that the Brit was doing well and would resume training the following day.

“Emma is absolutely fine. She will play tomorrow,” Houchin told CLAY.

Emma Raducanu Heads into Wimbledon with a Positive Mindset

Raducanu’s promising campaign at the Queen’s Club Championships left her brimming with confidence ahead of Wimbledon. Following her win over Iva Jovic in the semifinals, she declared that she was “back and better,” emphasizing that she produces her best tennis when she is enjoying herself on the court.

“When I’m smiling and enjoying it, that’s when I feel the best level can kind of flow out from there, rather than trying to put me in any type of mould. I think it’s the ‘new Emma,'” she said. “Because you take all the lessons and experience, all the different ups and downs, and you understand a lot more of what’s going on and what works for you. I’m back and better.”
