Stefanos Tsitsipas’ campaign at the 2026 Madrid Open received a notable boost from the presence of his girlfriend, Kristen Thoms. Beyond serving as an important source of support for Tsitsipas, Thoms also caught the attention of Serena Williams’ former coach Rennae Stubbs with her animated demeanor in the Greek star’s player box.
Why Stefanos Tsitsipas’ Girlfriend Drew Rennae Stubbs’ Eye at the Madrid Open
Stefanos Tsitsipas’ relationship with Kristen Thoms, a former collegiate tennis player, has become one of the most talked-about storylines at the ATP Masters 1000 event. The couple first stole the spotlight when the Greek shared an emotional embrace with Thoms after beating Patrick Kypson 3-6, 7-6(6), 7-6(4) in his opening match, later expressing heartfelt sentiments about her.
Thoms then cheered the 27-year-old on from the sidelines while he pulled off a spectacular 6-2, 7-5 upset over No. 8 seed Alexander Bublik. She was also spotted bonding with Tsitsipas’ father, Apostolos, during his commanding 6-4, 6-2 win over Daniel Mérida Aguilar.

Although Thoms has become a familiar face in the former world No. 3’s player box, Rennae Stubbs was left confused about her identity during Tsitsipas’ blockbuster fourth-round showdown with Casper Ruud.
“Whos the blonde in Stefs players box?” Stubbs asked.
Once fans clarified who Thoms was, Stubbs was struck by her upbeat demeanor and humorously observed that she had never seen a more cheerful partner on the sidelines.
“I have never seen a happier girlfriend in a players box then Stefs!! 😂😂😂,” she posted.

Despite Thoms’ visible joy, she had little to celebrate in the end as Ruud fended off two match points to beat Tsitsipas 6-7(4), 7-6(2), 7-6(3) after a closely contested battle.
Stefanos Tsitsipas Gushes Over ‘Super Cute’ Girlfriend Kristen Thoms
During his run at the Madrid Open, Tsitsipas spoke candidly about the role his girlfriend has played in helping him navigate difficult moments on the court. The 27-year-old, who has been in a relationship with Thoms since late 2025, credited her for empathizing with the unique challenges of being a tennis player and for providing steady support.
“She’s super cute. I love seeing her face in difficult moments. She’s the person I’m always seeking out for in difficult match moments. She’s been there for me for a very long time. I feel like she knows about tennis, and that’s what makes her special to be on the court. She’s played tennis herself, knows the psychology of tennis,” he said. “She’s been a great support so far in my tennis journey, in my matches. I have had her last week too.”

The Greek star also stressed the importance of making the most of his time with Thoms amid the demanding tour schedule, saying, “We’re trying to obviously be with each other as much as we can because this tour is very demanding and it requires a lot of travel. So I really want to spend as much time as possible building memories on court and off court.”
