Stan Wawrinka, who is currently competing at the 2025 Croatia Open, had a sharp response to a troll on social media after being told to retire from tennis.
Wawrinka turned professional in 2002 and has since won 16 ATP Tour-level singles titles. He has also clinched three Grand Slam titles – the 2014 Australian Open by defeating Rafael Nadal, the 2015 French Open, and the 2016 US Open, both by beating Novak Djokovic in the finals.
The Swiss also won a gold medal in the doubles event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics alongside Roger Federer. He achieved his highest singles ranking of World No. 3, among numerous other accolades.
Stan Wawrinka Shuts Down Troll Calling for His Retirement
At the 2025 Croatia Open, Wawrinka started his campaign by defeating qualifier Álvaro Guillén Meza in the first round with a score of 6-4, 6-1. The 22-year-old had secured his spot in the main draw after winning against Ugo Blanchet (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) and Luka Mikrut (6-3, 6-1) in the first and second qualifying rounds, respectively.
During this ongoing ATP 250 clay court tournament, a troll referred to Wawrinka as “uncle,” seemingly due to his age, and suggested he should retire due to his age.
“time to retire unc @stanwawrinka,” the troll posted on X.
Wawrinka shut down the troll with a brief but impactful reply, using just two emojis.
“🖕🏻🫶🏻,” Wawrinka replied.
