Paul vs Darderi Head-to-Head Record

Paul has had the upper hand over Darderi in the past, winning both of their previous meetings. The American defeated the Italian at the 2024 Paris Olympics, before winning in straight sets again at the Canadian Open later that year.

Seeded 16th in Rome, Paul started his campaign with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Aleksandar Vukic. He also claimed his maiden clay-court title last month at the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships and has quickly improved his overall win percentage on the surface to 57%.

Darderi is very much a clay-court specialist, with five titles on the surface. He has a win percentage of 67% on the red dirt and started his campaign in Rome with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Yannick Hanfmann.

The Italian also has a title to his name this year, having triumphed in Santiago in February. He also made the semifinals in Morocco, but has lost 4 of his last 7 matches.

Paul vs Darderi Prediction and Pick

This could be one of the day’s most entertaining matches between two players who play aggressive and relentless tennis. Both players are also dominant on the baseline and cover the court well.

Paul arrives in this match in better form, having recently triumphed in Houston. He has also reached the semifinals in Rome in each of the last two years, while Darderi has never advanced past the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

Darderi dominated proceedings during the South American clay-court season, but has not been able to translate that to strong performances in Europe.

The 24-year-old played well in the second round, winning 84% of the points on his first serve and firing 6 aces against Hanfmann. But Paul will present him with a tougher test on Sunday, and it will be interesting to see if he can maintain his level.

We are backing Paul to keep Darderi and the Rome crowd quiet in what is sure to be a match that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

Pick – Paul in three sets.
