American star Madison Keys recently revealed a hilarious kitchen accident in which she burned herself while making a snack following her practice session.

The current World No. 7 has qualified for the WTA Finals after a long time and will be sharing the court with top-notch WTA stars in the event, which will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

How Did Madison Keys Find Herself With a Facial Burn While Cooking Her Lunch?

During her recent appearance on “The Player’s Box Podcast” with Jessica Pegula, Jennifer Brady, and Desirae Krawczyk, Keys revealed the story during the unforced error of the week section. The section highlights what went wrong with each host during the week, with the incidents often revealing comical situations faced by the players.

The Grand Slam champion described the accident following her practice session, which also earned a surprised reaction from her husband and coach, Bjorn Fratangelo. Throughout the start of the episode, Keys shared exactly what happened when she felt hungry and wanted to make a snack to stave off her hunger before cooking lunch.

She added, “I started making lunch, but I was like, I need something to eat while I’m making lunch because I’m starving.” And I was like, “Oh, amazing. I have scallion pancakes in the freezer. It takes like 5 minutes and then I can snack on that.”

Keys continued unveiling the comical accident: “So, I fry it up, literally take it out of a hot skillet, put it on the plate, and then just went like face first into it, and I forgot how hot it was. And I touched the side of my face, and I had this massive red burn on the side of my face.”

Furthermore, she also added how Fratangelo reacted to her burning her face while eating scallion pancakes. Adding, “And Bujorn came around the corner and he’s like, “What’s wrong with your face?” And I was like, “I just burned my whole face because I went like face first into my food.”

Keys tied the knot with Fratangelo, whom she has been dating since 2017, in November 2024. He is a former top 100 ATP player who has been coaching her since June 2023.

Madison Keys Will Be Returning to the WTA Finals After How Long?

The winner of ten singles titles last played the WTA Finals in 2016, losing in the group stage. After achieving notable victories in her 2025 season, Madison Keys will be sharing the elite stage in Riyadh with Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, Jessica Pegula, Elena Rybakina, and Jasmine Paolini.

In her current season, Keys clinched her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open after defeating World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who had won in 2023 and 2024. Apart from this, she also won the Adelaide International, overcoming Pegula in the final round.
