American tennis star Frances Tiafoe recently revealed that he made a few changes to his workout and diet following a subpar 2025 season. The 28-year-old also highlighted that he has cut down severely on consuming junk foods and alcohol.
Why Frances Tiafoe Felt ‘Consistent’ After Cutting Down on Bad Habits
The former world No. 10 had a good campaign in 2024, reaching the semifinals of the U.S. Open. A lot was expected out of the American in 2025, but Tiafoe flattered to deceive.
His best performance came in the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship, where he reached the final for the third consecutive time. Besides his strong run in Houston, he exited early in most of the tournaments he played in.
Tiafoe also shut down his season early after an opening-round defeat at the Shanghai Masters. He cut ties with coaches David Witt and Jordi Arconada after a disappointing 2025 season.
However, it seems he has learned the hard way and has made significant changes to put his career back on track. During his recent appearance on “The Changeover Podcast”, Tiafoe stressed doing the difficult things and pushing himself out of his comfort zone.
“I needed to do hard stuff again. I needed to get excited about doing the work, about showing up every day and actually putting it in. I just needed to go left, just change something, because what I was doing wasn’t enough,” the American said.
“I ain’t been drinking for like two and a half months, then I went to Australia, so that turned into like four and a half months. No cheat meals, none of that. Just locked in. I felt way better, way leaner, way more consistent day to day,” he said.
The changes have already impacted Tiafoe’s outings so far in 2026. He made it to the quarterfinals in the Delray Beach Open before finishing as the runner-up in Mexico. The U.S. native also had a good run at the Miami Open before losing to eventual champion Jannik Sinner 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

He currently holds a 15-7 record this year, which has also impacted his ranking. Tiafoe, who started the year at No. 30, has moved up 12 spots to occupy the No. 18 place at present.
He will next be seen in action at the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship, where he will begin his campaign against Rinky Hijikata. He won the title here in 2023 and has finished as runner-up in the last two seasons. Tiafoe will hope to continue his excellent run here and gear up for the upcoming French Open.
