“I feel the opinion of João Fonseca on Alcaraz and Sinner after playing them back-to-back is very interesting. Carlos is incredibly creative and he has an incredible arsenal as João said. We’ve seen that when he overdoses on tennis, he loses his creativity. He’s up and down, he makes more unforced errors and then he’s not the same player anymore,” Mouratoglou said on Instagram.

“On the other hand, you have Jannik Sinner. I understand what João means by saying, ‘He’s like a robot.’ It’s just a feeling he has, a guy who hits the ball incredibly on both sides, picking the ball super early and he almost never misses,” he added.

Mouratoglou further reacted to Fonseca’s candor after facing Sinner and Alcaraz.

“Am I surprised by João saying this? Yes, a little bit. He doesn’t try to be politically correct, he says what he thinks after playing against the two best players in the world, and explaining the differences between those two guys,” he concluded.

Fonseca faced Sinner in the fourth round at Indian Wells, losing 7-6(6), 7-6(4) after two closely contested sets. The Brazilian then faced Alcaraz in the second round of the Miami Open and lost 6-4, 6-4.

Regarded as one of the most exciting young players in the world, Fonseca already has two ATP Tour titles to his name at the age of 19. He also won the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz and Sinner have been dominating men’s tennis this year. The former won the Australian Open and also triumphed in Qatar, before the latter completed the Sunshine Double with triumphs at the BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open. He won both tournaments without dropping a set.

The ATP Tour is now preparing for the clay-court season, with Alcaraz, Sinner, and Fonseca all set to compete at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
