Sinner on Cincinnati Final Disappointment
The Italian did not appear in a post-match press conference after retiring in the Cincinnati Open final. However, he did send a few quotes, claiming that he hadn’t felt at his physical best since the day before the final.
“Yes, of course, disappointed. Didn’t feel great from yesterday. Also during the night, I thought I would recover a bit better, but it was not the case. And I just tried to go out for the, for the fans, trying to give, you know, a match. You know, that’s the reason why I went on the court, but it was not meant to be for me today,” Sinner said.
The World No. 1 is next scheduled to compete at the US Open, where he is the defending champion. Sinner won his maiden title at the New York Major last year after beating Taylor Fritz in the final in straight sets. The Italian will aim to become the first man to win successive titles at the US Open since Roger Federer’s five successive triumphs from 2004-2008.
