Iga Świątek Departs Indian Wells With a Loss but Carries Beautiful Memories Forward
Świątek commenced her title quest at the Indian Wells Open with commanding wins, sweeping past Kayla Day in the round of 64, overpowering Greek star Maria Sakkari in the round of 32, and dispatching Karolína Muchová in the round of 16. She had surpassed Sakkari and Muchová in straight sets, building on her elite performances.
However, her hopes to move forward were dashed by Svitolina, who defeated her with a final scoreline of 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in 2 hours and 9 minutes. The Warsaw, Poland, native lost the first set, won the second, and then lost the third, thus facing a heavy loss.

Following her defeat, the WTA star reflected that her game had slipped far from its usual brilliance. She also revealed that she fought to seize control during her battle but was unable to ignite her spark on the court.
She added, “I played poorly today…but congratulations to Elina on the win. I tried adjusting the string tension, but the balls were still flying without any control. It’s hard to tell if it was the strings, my physical form, or just being too tight, but I feel like I didn’t have a ‘fast hand’ today, no matter how hard I tried.”
