Iga Świątek Seeks ‘Chemistry’ With Emma Raducanu’s Ex-Coach Roig After Nadal’s Reported Advice

Iga Świątek will reportedly trial Francisco Roig at the Rafa Nadal Academy as she looks to rediscover her trademark dominance on clay.

Although Iga Świątek’s hunt for a new coach continues, recent reports link the Pole to Francisco Roig, who formerly coached Rafael Nadal and Emma Raducanu. Świątek is reportedly set for a joint training session at the Rafa Nadal Academy with the experienced Spanish coach, who parted ways with Raducanu earlier this year following the Australian Open.

Iga Świątek To Test Chemistry With Francisco Roig

Świątek will soon begin her clay-court preparations at the Rafa Nadal Academy. The decision follows her split with former coach Wim Fissette, with whom she had worked since October 2024.

Although their partnership brought notable achievements, such as Świątek’s 2025 Wimbledon triumph and victories in Seoul and Cincinnati, the Pole couldn’t hit her stride as the 2026 season began.

Quarterfinal exits at the Australian Open, Qatar Open, and the BNP Paribas Open were underwhelming for Świątek’s lofty standards. Her results dipped further when she fell to Magda Linette in the second round of the Miami Open.

Nonetheless, Świątek remains intent on rediscovering her trademark dominance. Polish outlet Przegląd Sportowy Onet recently reported that she is set to arrive at the Rafa Nadal Academy as early as next week to begin preparations for the Stuttgart Open (April 13–19).

At the same time, her search for a new coach is ongoing following her recent split from Fissette. The search reportedly began before the WTA 1000 event in Miami.

Reports from the same Polish outlet suggested that Roig could accompany Świątek there. The news began to gain ground after Sports.PL reported that the Spanish coach would join the World No. 3 at the Rafa Nadal Academy for joint training sessions, intended as an initial trial to see if the two build the right chemistry.

“This is supposed to be an opportunity to get to know each other. To see if there’s chemistry,” it was reported.

Roig’s name was recommended to Świątek by Nadal, who worked with the 57-year-old from 2005 to 2022.

Roig has worked with several established names on the tour, though many of those stints have been relatively short. The 57-year-old guided Matteo Berrettini until October 2024, before later taking on a brief role with Emma Raducanu between August 2025 and January this year.

Just a few weeks after parting ways with the former US Open champion, the Spaniard was seen working with Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard ahead of the Indian Wells Masters.

It remains to be seen if Świątek will reach an agreement with Roig in the coming days and appoint him as her coach. The Pole will also be eager to rediscover her form in the lead-up to the French Open, a tournament she has won four times in her career.
