How ‘Baby Driver’ Actress Eiza Gonzalez Has Reacted to Renata Zarazúa’s Success

Gonzalez, who boasts over eight million Instagram followers, immediately took to social media to celebrate Zarazúa’s achievement. She reposted a video of Zarazúa discussing what it means to represent Mexico on tennis’s biggest stage.

When asked about being the lone Mexican woman in the singles draw, Zarazúa reflected on her country’s tennis landscape.

“It (Mexico) is a country [where] we don’t have many tennis players you can see, but I had some Mexican (players) from doubles cheering for me, so we just tried to give our best,” she replied.

The crowd support clearly resonated with Zarazúa throughout the match. “Definitely, I could hear some Mexicans cheering, so that was very nice,” she added.

Gonzalez’s response was simple but powerful. Sharing the post-match interview clip on her Instagram Stories, the Baby Driver actress captioned it with just one word: “this.”

What Did Renata Zarazúa Reveal About Her Nerves Before Facing Madison Keys?

Following her marathon victory, Zarazúa, ranked No. 82 in the world, opened up about her overwhelming emotions before stepping onto the court against the No. 6 seed.

“Coming into the match, I was like… almost crying because I was really nervous,” she revealed. However, the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd quickly became her ally, helping her settle into the biggest match of her career.

“But I think the crowd made it so chill for me, so I was loosening up. Thank you guys for staying. I know my game is a bit tricky, so sometimes people get a bit bored,” Zarazúa said.

Zarazúa’s breakthrough represents more than just a personal victory. As one of the few Mexican women competing on the WTA Tour, she carries the hopes of an entire nation every time she steps on court.

Her resume already includes several historic achievements. Zarazúa has claimed two titles at the challenger level, and her WTA Tour performances have been equally impressive. In 2020, she became the first Mexican woman to reach a WTA Tour semifinal since 1993, achieving that milestone at her home tournament in Acapulco.

The breakthrough continued in 2024 when she cracked the top 100 of the world rankings for the first time. Earlier this year, she made more history by becoming the first Mexican player to win a match at the Australian Open in 25 years, defeating Taylor Townsend.

How Is Eiza Gonzalez Learning Tennis From Grigor Dimitrov?

While celebrating Zarazúa’s success, Gonzalez has been working on her own tennis game. She recently shared photos on social media showing Dimitrov teaching her the fundamentals during a practice session at the Monte-Carlo Country Club.

The timing of these lessons was particularly meaningful. The training took place just days after Dimitrov was forced to withdraw from the US Open 2025 due to a freak injury. He had been leading World No. 1 Jannik Sinner by two sets to love when the injury forced him to retire mid-match.

Dimitrov and Gonzalez began dating in April 2025, first appearing together publicly at the Madrid Open in late April. Following their appearance at the Red Sea Film Gala, their relationship became Instagram-official on May 17, 2025, a day after Dimitrov’s 34th birthday.
