American star Frances Tiafoe is currently on one of the biggest runs of his career, having reached the quarterfinals of the 2026 Miami Open. He is one of the two remaining Americans at the ATP Masters 1000, along with his good friend Tommy Paul. However, if Tiafoe wants to keep his hopes alive for a title run, he must overcome the biggest obstacle in his path: World No. 2 Jannik Sinner.
Before their quarterfinal match, the American gave an honest answer, sending a message that he does not “fear” the Italian.
Frances Tiafoe Talks About Jannik Sinner Before Their Miami Open Quarterfinal
Tiafoe faced Frenchman Terence Atmane in the fourth round of the 2026 Miami Open. Despite losing the second set, the American mounted a comeback and secured his spot in the final eight with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win.
Right before this match, he caused a massive upset, ending Jakub Menšík’s title defense at Hard Rock Stadium in a hard-fought 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(11) win. Since then, Tiafoe has been riding a wave of confidence, which has fueled him for his upcoming clash with the Italian.
Speaking ahead of the match, the American said, “I feel confident. Fear no man. Go out there and believe. Why not?”
This shows that, despite his reputation as one of the strongest players on hardcourts over the past two years, Tiafoe considers Sinner just his next opponent.
Adding to this, the American showed his trademark humor, saying, “He puts his socks and undies on like I do,” indicating that Sinner’s world ranking and resume do not scare him.

Both players have met five times on the ATP Tour, with the Italian holding a dominant 4-1 head-to-head record. Their last meeting was in the final of the Cincinnati Open back in 2024, where Sinner won 7-6(4), 6-2 in straight sets.
The only win under Tiafoe’s name is from the 2021 Vienna Open, where the American eliminated Sinner in the semifinal with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win. PFSN’s exclusive interactive simulator predicts that Sinner will reach the semifinals without any issues, with an over 90% chance of winning the match.
After securing the Indian Wells title less than 10 days ago, Sinner is eyeing a Sunshine Double, a feat last achieved on the men’s side by Swiss legend Roger Federer back in 2017. He is yet to drop a single set at the tournament, having won all of his matches in straight sets so far.

He defeated Bosnian Damir Džumhur 6-3, 6-3; Frenchman Corentin Moutet 6-1, 6-4; and American Alex Michelsen 7-5, 7-6(4), and is now set to face the World No. 20. He delivered a similarly dominant performance in Tennis Paradise, winning the entire event without dropping a single set.
It will be interesting to see whether the Italian makes history in Miami or whether the confident American destroys his hopes of advancing in the title run.
