Daniil Medvedev begins his Madrid Open campaign against Fábián Marozsán on Saturday. The last time the Russian was on the court, he was handed a 6-0, 6-0 defeat. Still recovering from that double bagel, Medvedev will hope to lay down a strong marker in Madrid.

Medvedev vs Marozsán Head-to-Head Record
These two players have met three times on the ATP Tour, including once this year. Medvedev has won all three of those matches but did need to come from two sets behind to defeat Marozsán in the third round of the 2026 Australian Open.
This will be their first meeting on clay, where Medvedev does not have the best of records. The 30-year-old was handed a 6-0, 6-0 thrashing by Matteo Berrettini in his Monte-Carlo opener and will be eager to return to the form that saw him win two titles and make the Indian Wells final earlier this year.
Despite his recent struggles on clay, Medvedev has made the quarterfinals at the last two editions of the Madrid Open.
Marozsán is a very capable player who showcased his talent with a hard-fought 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6) win over Ethan Quinn in the first round. The Hungarian’s overall record in 2026 stands at 11-11, with a semifinals run in Auckland his best result so far.
Since then, Marozsán has suffered several close losses. He also defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in Munich last week before losing in the next round.
Medvedev vs Marozsán Match Prediction
Neither player has a standout record on clay, although Medvedev did win the Italian Open in 2023 and has showcased glimpses of his quality at times while looking utterly uncomfortable on the surface at others.
Serve was key for Marozsán in his first-round win as he won 89% of the points on his first serve and 61% on his second serve. He also made only 14 unforced errors, and that discipline is something he will have to maintain in order to stand a chance against the seventh seed on Saturday.
Marozsán is a capable player who can make things difficult for his opponents, just like he did in his last meeting against Medvedev. But the Russian found a way to win then, and we are backing him to narrowly see out another win on Saturday to advance to the third round.
